I have not been this sickened, this nauseated and disgusted by human behavior, since I found out the reason why a woman I knew and liked killed herself and her in-laws in a murder-suicide by arson.

It was in Dr M____'s class that I watched this video, an oldie-but-goodie documentary about child abuse hosted by Oprah. They had both the abusers and, in all but one case, the victims. (The exception was one in which the woman had actually killed her child.)

Three of the cases wound up in criminal court. The two men, who had sexually abused their daughters, got about two or three years in jail between the two of them. The woman who had killed her son was acquitted because despite a long history of beating both her children, the court ruled there was no evidence she had been anything but a normal mother concerned with the welfare of her children.
