It has come to my attention lately that there are a group of 'oldbie' Gaians who are upset about 'newbie' Gaians getting special treatment from Gaia nowadays. When I started Gaia, the only item I was given was a peasant dress. Male avatars got a peasant shirt and pants. In order to buy any decent looking clothes, you had to get to work making gold by posting and doing polls, etc. Since then Gaia has gotten games, towns, and a plethora of other gold-making methods, but I have not ONCE thought back with resentment upon the old days when the only way to make gold was to post in the forums and vote in the art arenas, etc.

Gaia is one of the few places where, whenever they update or improve anything, people look upon it with disgust and disappointment. The more things change, the more the 'original' members of Gaia claim that it has gone downhill and they threaten to leave. (And good riddance I say, we don't need people with that kind of attitude.)

So here is the thing. New Gaians are being given lots of "starter"items, including shirts, pants, shoes and some housing items. They don't look like anything special, but they do NOT look like you just walked out of a garbage can or slum (a la peasant items). They include stuff like some sneakers, a baggy tee, etc. Very plain. And yet for some reason, some of the old Gaians are SO mad that they had to save up 500 gold to buy their first cheap 'outfit' that they have created some kind of organization for angry, bitter old people where they can all get together and say stuff like "back in my day, I had to post in 235 threads before I could buy my leopard print tube top and pink hotpants. These kids today, they get a baggy shirt and jeans AND shoes without havin' to get up off the couch!". And I guess somehow the admins of Gaia are supposed to stop "spoiling" new people and go back to giving them torn rags to wear.

So hey guys, if you're that upset about only getting peasant clothes "back in the day", you can just create a new account and get some free s**t and not have to pay for it. Or you can buy the entire set of starter items for less than 300 gold and pretend Gaia gave them to you back in 2003. But I guess that's not it, is it? It's the concept. The concept that you were born first and didn't get treated with as much special care as your new baby brother- err, that new guy who just joined Gaia yesterday.

Seriously, grow up!

You had access to items that people who joined Gaia yesterday will probably never ever have a chance in 9 hells of getting. When I got my mini wings, they were worth 30,000g. Now they're worth almost 10 million. I don't think and newbs are gonna be getting that much gold from selling their starter items that the Gaia admins "lavished" upon them. They're going to have to work just as hard if not a lot harder to get nice outfits for their avatars, so chill.
