Respectable career. Absolutely formidable. Prolific. Fraught with hits.
But I gotta tell you the guy's performance instincts were something.

He wrote the music for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Found some of the concept recordings this weekend and gave them a listen.
Cheer Up Charlie actually gets way better. But a lot of the songs were reworked a lot to get to their movie form.

One song that stayed consistent was The Candy Man. It's mostly how you'd expect.
Except when demonstrating the vocals, Newley does this thing. He just likes to whisper random words.
