The Ramblings of a Lonely Crazy Person
Last week I said we’d try to clean the house bit by bit instead of having to rush to do it in the last day or two, and myself and my room mate succeeded! Mostly. I’ve got the kitchen left to do (because my room mate isn’t here), and tomorrow since everything else will be done, my room mate will mop the floors while I give the dog a bath. It’s really nice not to have to rush the cleaning for an inspection. A lot less panic and hurrying, and a little more “Yeah I can take a break, no rush”. I’m particularly proud of myself because I cleaned three, almost four rooms by myself. My room mate cleaned his own room and organized his tools. He is going to do the damn mopping though if he’s got to do it with his tongue. I don’t do a good job of mopping when I do it, so, yeah, he’s got to do it. Also, after all that cleaning, it feels like I’m having a harder time breathing and I’ve been sneezing rather often lately. I think I might have issues with all the dust and dirt I had to clean up.

Also last week I said that lump in my eyelid hadn’t gone away. This week is no different, but my room mate said we’ll have trouble paying the rent and possibly other bills, so I won’t be seeing a doctor about it any time soon. On the upside, hospitals are usually pretty tall buildings, so if it becomes a problem and we have to go to the emergency room and the doctor says it’s cancer, at least I can deal with that pretty quick. I know cancer isn’t always a death sentence, but we wouldn’t be able to deal with the bills, which I’m pretty sure I’ve said already. On another bright side, my room mate wouldn’t have to put up with me anymore, and I wouldn’t keep making these journal entries.

In other news, I learned about this thing called ICANN that was taken care of by the united states, but has been transferred to the United Nations. I thought at first this wouldn’t be a big deal since the internet is a big thing and more than one country should have a say in the naming of and maintaining of web addresses. However after watching and reading some things about it, I’ve become worried. There are places in the world where free speech isn’t a thing and the government censors the internet. In America, the first amendment kept anyone from doing that while the thing was being done here. If another country takes over ICANN or has a heavy influence on it, they could go around censoring things for the entire world. That is way too much power to have, and if it does happen, there would be no point in me using the internet anymore. Just the thought of a domain name for a site disappearing because something on it wasn’t liked by someone in power somewhere in the world makes my stomach churn. A short video I saw about it didn’t help the matter. A woman being interviewed said something along the lines of “when you wake up tomorrow everything will be the same” when speaking about the transfer of ICANN. She isn’t wrong, but it’s also stupid to think of it in such a short time frame. How’s the internet going to look six months from now? A year? Ten years? Censorship doesn’t happen instantly and can’t on something so huge as the internet. It would happen at a relatively slow pace so no one notices at first, and then all of a sudden people will look back and wonder what the hell happened. By that point it’s too late to do anything about it. I realize I might be dipping into conspiracy theory here, but this really frightens me. The internet is where I socialize, get entertained, and learn. Despite the terrible things that can happen on it, I still don’t want it to be censored. I suppose this would be one of those times where the saying “Hope for the best, prepare for the worst” would come in handy. I just don’t know how to prepare for the worst. What could anyone do to prepare for the internet possibly going away or shrinking to such a degree that it is pointless to use anymore?
