Author’s Note: All the duel’s in this story are with a 2000 life point start. This very low number is so the story can be pushed along, and not waste so much time on duel’s the last five chapters. This does make several cards pretty much useless, an example even appears in this chapter of a character paying 2000 life points to activate a card and immediately losing the duel. Of course there will be strategies and game mechanic’s, though briefly explained, to keep it suspenseful and the most important thing, keep it paced, for it still is a fanfic and requires, romance, actual action and all that good stuff. All the other rules are the same as in real life Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG.
Yu-Gi-Oh!: Card Game Soap Opera Shielsia’s Week
The rest of the school week followed Monday and Tuesday’s parameters but a bit less intense. Shielsia had set her dominance of the Yu-Gi-Oh card game, against all opponents. Though not the trending fashion she had desired, still having to bum clothes from Gaidra, button up dress shirts and unrevealing tank tops. Despite her limited fashion creativity, she made each outfit her own, tying the shirts in different ways, one day using one of Gaidra’s large button up shirt’s like shoal. Though what she lacked in fashion AND ACADEMICS, she made up for in playing everybody’s favorite card game. Each day she would duel in the morning, win with the same combo and then be bored the rest of the day, like a restless zombie in her classes. The morning was her favorite time. Right before class, another student would challenge her to a duel. Her first victory was painfully easy, it was against a duelist who used a Final Count Down deck,(Final countdown allows the player to win in twenty turns, despite life point or field presence) unfortunately for that student, he didn’t understand what the meaning of the 2000 point cost to activate the card meant. With a stupefied look, Shielsia just stood at her opponent, who was filled with cocky smiles. “Surprised that this duel will be over in twenty turns?” His nasally voice creaked. Covering her face with her duel disk she shook her head. “Look at your life point counter…” Taking her advice he checked his dueling gauntlet and gasped. “What, you cheated?! Why are my life points gone?!” “Because you played Final Countdown.” She was getting annoyed. “Why would that get rid of my life points?” “It costs 2000 points to activate it.” “What do you mean…?” He was absolutely clueless… It took several minutes, for Shielsia to explain what costs were in the card game, in that time she could have dueled a real opponent, so she went to class depressed that it was such a sucky victory.
Thursday she got to duel against a Dark World Deck, which had the mighty 2700 point Grapha on the field in the first turn, accompanied with the field spell the Gates to dark world, increasing it’s attack points by 300. The hologram effect of the Dark World field made day time seem like midnight, causing everything to be shroud in a black pitch, while a giant metal gate stood behind the opponent. “Not bad, but you left yourself wide open!” She spoke as if Grapha the ruler of Dark world wasn’t even there. “I did, how?!” The kid panicked. “Let the cards tell you,” revealing three Spellbook cards and giving hokey prophetic banter for each one, Shielsia special summoned Priestess of Prophecy from her hand. “I banish Spellbook of wisdom, so that she will destroy your monster.” The jubilant priestess held the Spellbook of wisdom for a moment, glowed with it’s magic and then tossed it away. She then opened her hands, releasing the pink energy destroying Grapha, then attacking his life points directly. Another one turn kill. Friday she faced down 4 opponents at once. One, a stretched tall looking guy; with a classic Dragon deck, which Had Five headed dragon out on his first turn 5000/5000. The tremendous dragon had five elemental heads, it was one of the most powerful creatures of duel monster, fused from five different dragons. The next duelist was a burly looking girl using an Amazoness deck who had played Amazoness village along with Amazoness Sword’s woman in attack mode. The buff swordswoman stood in the village, since she was in attack mode, she held her sword forward in a striking position. 1500/1600 The third deck was a Toon Deck, who had Toon Dark Magician girl played in his first turn, along with the permanent spell Toon world, which would keep his Magician girl alive and give it all sorts of magical abilities, like attacking directly. The fourth opponent, believe it or not was using a Destiny board deck, so he merely set one card in his spell and trap card zone and played Swords of revealing light to protect them for 3 turns from attacks. They knew Shielsia’s priestess would probably destroy Toon World to get rid of Toon Dark Magician girl’s but there was no way she could do enough damage with one monster. As soon as she drew, her opponent flipped the Destiny Board card, which would promise victory in five turns, for him. “Well this duel is already over.” She closed her eyes and smirked. These opponents were all just terrible, their decks ancient. Have they not had newer booster packs here? Having the perfect card in her hand for another one turn kill, she would spring it during the end of the turn, but in the meantime… “I place one card face down, then play the spell card reasoning, it let’s you choose a lev-“ “Seven.” “Seven!” “7…” Sephen!” It was unanimous. “Alright, if I pick up a level seven monster, it goes to the graveyard.” She picked up her first card, spell book of secrets. “The Spellbook of secrets may not be in play now, but there is a hidden secret, already on the field, waiting to be unleashed.” She prophesized and onto the next card, still not a monster, instead it was Spell Book of the master, she realized she couldn’t make a prophecy for every card, it would take too long since her deck was filled with these spell cards, instead she just milled them right into the graveyard. The third card Spellbook of power, the fourth Spellbook of wisdom, the fifth Spellbook star hall, the sixth, spell book library of the Heliosphere, finally the seventh card was her Spell Book magician, who was a level two monster and could be special summoned to the field in attack mode, by the effect of Reasoning. “Now watch my Magical Dimension,” Her Spellbook Magician was concealed in the dark magic sarcophagus and when it opened out came Reaper of Prophecy, who’s effect special summoned Destroyer of Prophecy to her field. She now had two powerful monsters, but she then combined them to create Magi Magi Magician girl. The Magician girl flew about on her field. The opponents recognized that card as the one that defeated Pazzerelli, who was also watching the duel, nodding his head impressed at the display. “I now use Magi Magi’s effect to take control of one of your monsters.” She pointed to Amazoness Swordswoman who walked over to her side of the field. The man with Five headed dragon cackled laughter. “Fool, you missed the chance to have my dragon!” The burly girl glared at him. “No, she play game right…” Spoken like a cave woman, she knew Swordswoman’s special ability could end the game, if Shielsia attacked five headed dragon. “If I attack your dragon with Swordswoman, the 3500 points of damage I’ll take will be going to my opponent instead. ALL OF MY OPPONENTS!” She placed her hands on her hips proudly. “I however end my turn instead…” She was good at pretending to be sad, the reason she didn’t attack was a mystery to them. They all criticized her for throwing the duel away, so did the other people watching. Gaidra shook his head, he knew there was some sadistic angle to the way Shielsia worked and it was about to be revealed. Amazoness Swordswoman went back to her opponent and the Destiny letter ‘I’ spell card appeared on the field. Now a glowing F and I reigned down upon Shielsia, who was prepping a bow. The opponent with Five Headed Dragon now made his turn. “Five headed dragon atta-“ He gasped, noticing Shielsia was pointing a bow at five headed dragon. “What are you doing?!” The Toon world opponent gasped. “I didn’t win last turn, because I wanted to play my favorite spell card, its name; Spell Shattering Arrow!” The bow she gripped began to glow and a sharp arrow, with a glowing white orb appeared. Magi Magi Magician girl looked back at Shielsia happily who winked at her. When she let loose the arrow, all of her opponent’s spell cards were destroyed and each were dealt 2000 points of damage, ending the duel. Shielsia gave them all a thumbs up. “It was like a blast from the past, seeing your decks in action.” After that comment she gave a humble laugh rubbing the back of her head. “Best duel, all week!”
Finally the weekend came. Shielsia hadn’t slept all night. Today she was going to go clothes shopping with her new friends Cassie and Maria! She also needed to equip herself with accessories that everybody needed, like a cell phone, maybe a computer. She did, after all have that money she bet on Cassie during her duel with Simone. (Actually Pazzerelli’s money.) It was eight in the morning when she snuck into Gaidra’s room to steal some clothes. To think this would be the last time she would have to wear those dress shirts in public. Hey, he wasn’t there! She didn’t hear him sound asleep, in fact there were no lumps of his body beneath the sheets. “Musta gone out early.” She whispered to herself oddly, as if talking to somebody who wasn’t there. A habit she often had, growing up with her father. Speaking of which, was also sneaking about in Gaidra’s room. Their backs bumped as she went to turn away from Gaidra’s bed. “Just borrowing some clothes’ don’t worry, it’s the last time-“ She mistook him as Gaidra first. “Just borrowing some money, don’t worry, it’s the last time-“ Davoski spoke at the same time, then stopped after realizing it was his daughter. She cocked her brow at him. “Stealing is more like it!” She yanked a couple crinkled dollars from her dad’s hand. “I thought you gotta job already!” He stood tall, back handing her, but she caught his wrist and held it back. “Don’t you know anything? I’ve only gone to job interviews, Gaidra’s been lending me bus fare.” He defended his callous actions. Groaning out each word as she held his hand away from the money. “Maybe…if…you… hadn’t bought… that… stupid…roast duck… back in Egypt… we’d have money!” She threw him off, then fondled through her own bra, shuffling the plump pillows that were her breasts, pulling out a hundred. “Here, use this, Jeesh.” Taking the money he had a flush of surprise over his face, “Have you been holding out on me?! How much you got?” She looked at her bra, now noticing how it seemed to be bigger than normal, filled with cash no doubt! “Stay back, back I said!” She hopped to Gaidra’s bed, then bounced onto his bureau, crouching down, like a hissing cat, now at equal height with her father. She put Gaidra’s money back in a saucer he kept little knick knacks in. Frowning Davoski turned away, “my own daughter, once a sweet little flower, now a she-devil whom tears at her sweet old father’s heart.” He began to fake cry. This façade was lost on Shielsia. “Yo soulless, sell it somewhere else.” In defeat, with a hundred dollars, Davoski left the room shoulders slumped. Moving off the bureau, our fiery red head searched through Gaidra’s drawers one last time for something to wear. After finding the clothes, she turned and placed another hundred dollar bill on Gaidra’s saucer. She smiled. “Now we’re even.” Though they had not become any bit friendlier to another, there still was a silent respect one had for the other, unfortunately their shared animosity for one another was open and loud. After leaving the room, walking down the hall, heading downstairs, Davoski reappeared, he tucked his immensely tall body in the laundry chute. He went back into Gaidra’s room and snagged the 100 Shielsia left for him, whistling proudly.
Gaidra’s Battle:
It was an early Saturday morning. Steam of the lake filled the air, the morning sun making it seem like a really hazy day. Gaidra’s feet pound the ground as he ran. He had been jogging all around Checkton since day break. He needed this day off from everything, not just school. He needed to rethink his attitude toward the new living arrangement with Shielsia and her somewhat sleazy father. No, they were both a bit sleazy, he thought. Though how she helped Cassie regain her confidence as a duelist was an extremely kind thing to do. So she wasn’t all that bad. Gaidra knew he had to make a fresh start with her, but each time he tried something got in the way. First try… In the early morning he went to the duel arena in their back yard, where Shielsia had set up as her own room. Though as he went in, he saw her from behind, her bare back… He gulped stunned by how her tan lines curved downwards over her round rump. He froze, maybe she wouldn’t see him. Then he saw her nose and half her face canopied by her orange hair. He couldn’t see her eyes, but he felt her glare upon him. “Take a pic why don’t ya?” She growled.
And then. During lunch he would sneak out of the library study to find her. He also had to sneak by Simone who also had the same lunch time as Shielsia. If Simone caught Gaidra speaking to her, it would be a nightmare! He saw her with those two girl’s she had been spending all her time with, Cassie and what’s her face. He waved and was about to say something to get her attention, until she was challenged to a duel. Card game holograms were prohibited at lunch time.
Finally… Cassie and Maria were walking down the hall after school, Gaidra ran up to them, asking about Shielsia. Maria just blushed, only managing a greeting while Cassie over thought the question. “Perhaps… Maybe she’s in the bathroom.” Cassie said thoughtfully with a rambunctious smile. “She’s in detention,” Maria managed to squeak in a high pitched tone, which made Cassie laugh. “You sound like a kitten I once had, oooh yeah! She got detention for using her Duel Disk at lunch.” Cassie recalled. Gaidra’s face lost hope, but he thanked the girl’s anyway. Everybody knew that detention’s teacher was a total a**. You could never be right and he would make you sign paper work, admitting to how wrong you were, even if you had honest to Ra facts…
After that he had given up trying…
Gaidra’s chest heaved up and down as he came to a large oval eroded rock. It was atop a long dirt hill. He gazed down the path ahead as he caught his breath. It was time to stop cowering and face his demons. He reached into the pocket of his cut-off shorts and pulled out his Yu-Gi-Oh deck. It was his father’s Dark Magician deck. He then sat cross legged on the rock and began going through all the cards one last time, remembering all the battles he had with them, that brought him his regional title of Yu-Gi-Oh card game champ. This would be the last time he scanned these cards, for he intended to go to the comic book shop and make a brand new deck.
He started to walk out of the wooded park, when he heard a commotion, and the voice of a familiar man. It was Shielsia’s dad Davoski! He ran over to see what was going on, but when he got to where he heard him, there was a terrifying black fog, he ran into it and felt cold… Within the darkness he heard terrible wails and thundering sounds of monsters battling. He backed out of it, catching his breath. It was unlike any fog he had ever seen. It stayed in that one spot, a purple, blackness just thundering though motionless. Again he stuck his hand in it and pulled it out. For a split second his hand had lost all it’s pigmentation and was desaturated of all color. “What the fuh…” He gulped, there would be resolution to this problem and within his core he felt he must, so he walked back into it. He could see nothing, but he heard the thundering sounds and screams again. Some sounds were even familiar. Electronic! An electronic sound that he has heard before many times. It was a roar, a monster cards roar. A somewhat a monotonous sound, with a terrifying hint to it kept roaring out battle cries. He heard it again, but it was blocked by the sound of something screaming. He opened his eyes. “Blue eyes white dragon!” He said out loud, that was the familiar roar he had been hearing. When he said that, shapes began to form and he started to see what was taking place. It was a duel! Davoski’s body was shroud in darkness as he stood on one side, hunched over, one hand on his knee. He could barely stand. The opponent looked inhuman. It’s face was wearing a skull’s mask and the rest of it in one of those Halloween costumes where the bones were bright white and the rest of the fabric was black. He was also wearing a hooded robe. The white wings of Blue eyes spread over, like a dreary grey sky. It’s dome stretched head creaked upwards, as it’s lower jaw open to bleed out another roar. It might’ve been coincidence, a routine in the hologram’s programming, but Gaidra felt as if the dragon was calling to him. “Davoski?” Gaidra spoke to him questionably. In the heat of the intense battle, while maintaining his shadow monster Davoski heard his name whispered, he turned looking right were Gaidra was standing, but stared as if there was nothing there. His eyes were a bit glassy. The surreal expression on his face was a joyful hopelessness. He had no soul, therefore nothing to lose, as he was about to lose the duel. He spoke. “Watch out for Shielsia…” A terrifying smoky skeleton ripped the mighty Blue eyes white dragon to pieces. Davoski fell over to the ground, his body lifeless, the shadows then vanished. So did the opponent he was facing. “Mr. Derru?!” Gaidra ran to his side. He checked his pulse; none. Davoski’s heart had gone quiet…
Yu-Gi-Oh!: Card Game Soap Opera Transmigration! Kingdom of the Skull Servants
Sporting a new tank top pink tank top, with frilly lacing going down the sides of her bosom bumps to the top of her tan exposed belly, cargo pants with plenty of pocket space for holding all sorts of trinkets, several new bracelets on her right arm to counter balance always carrying the duel disk on her left arm, and a purple and black neck piece to top off the outfit, which went splendidly with her Millennium puzzle mold earrings, Shielsia was now in style, playing with her new cell phone, with Cassie at one side of her and Maria, carting along a baby on the other side. Slender digits moving over the screen of her opened phone, she had practically programmed all the duelist’s number’s from school in, because they passed many people in the Casino district. Even the wretched Simone, who upon meeting her again, Shielsia remembered how much of a pain she was and blocked that number. (She would most likely forget why she blocked it and unblock it, only to reblock it again upon next meeting.) “Let’s go get some food now.” Cassie’s face lit up as they walked past the food court. It was the cheapies food court, not the superior meals they had in the actual Casino, which they would avoid from then on out, due to Simone’s presence. “I don’t know…” Maria knelt in front of her child fidgeting with things neither of the other girl’s really cared about. The weekends she had to watch her sun, while her family watched him the rest of the week. She had a part time job and was working to get into college, more like pressured by her dad, who’s relationship with was strained severely since the pregnancy. Cassie rolled her eyes. “Don’t tell me, gotta get going huh?” Maria took her child’s rattle and bopped Cassie on the nose with it. “No, it’s not that.” “Baby’s getting fussy?” Shielsia peered down. She pulled several colorful hanky’s tied together from one of her cargo pockets and began waving it around to make him giggle. “You keep that stuff with you always?” Maria said nervously. “Yap. Can never hurt, only helps.” She replied methodically. “Now let’s go get some grub. Cheese burgers sound yummy.” She said in a general tone, hiding the fact food was tasteless fuel to her soulless mouth. Suddenly Pazzerelli appeared beside Shielsia. “Yes, a date with you shall be a delight!” He took one of the hankie’s tying it to his pinky. “Let the thread of destiny bind us together!” He shouted, making a scene, the baby started to gurgle annoyed by this. “Aw, that’s so cute, you two would totally make a good couple!” Cassie squeaked excitedly. Shielsia looked back at her friend. “Are you nuts?” “My, one week of school and you already have a boyfriend, go you.” Maria fueled the fire. Scowling at Maria “Shut it Mar-“ “Then it’s settled, you and I shall become one in the grip of a hot romance.” Pazzerelli pulled Shielsia close with his pinky, dragging her by her arm. “I don’t need your bad romance!” She pushed him away. “Then perhaps you should give me back my money.” Pazzerelli glared at her, knowing full well she was using his prize money. Backing down the buxom red haired nodded her head in an admitting posture. “Fine… We will go on one date!” She held her slender index finger right up to his nose to prove that point. “And you’re buying lunch…” She grumbled. “A date it is!” He cheered, pulling her close to his wide torso. She froze like an annoyed goat, then bucked her legs to get free, to which he immediately released her. The ‘date’ didn’t go too bad, thanks to Cassie and Maria being there. Cassie would end up chatting up Pazzerelli over card strategies and who would be the better duelist. They almost came close to facing off, until Maria’s baby started crying. “Not again.” Shielsia speckled some glitter in front of the boy’s stroller. “Don’t do that, he might be allergic.” Maria rocked the stroller forward and backwards trying to lull the baby back into silence. BWOOP! Cassie checked her cell which was going off. “Hey, look I just got a text from Gaidra.” She smiled. “I wonder what he could want, maybe he will be all jealous like about your date?” A glaring face of villainy from Shielsia stared into Cassie, who gulped and opened the text. “Tell him I said hi…” Maria shyly added. “OH MY GOD! He says your dad is in the hospital!” “Feh, it’s a trick.” Shielsia shrugged, then slide open her own phone to start texting Gaidra, who was unaware she had a phone yet. BWOOP! A quick reply. Shielsia read the text, then bolted. A hurricane of glitter fell behind her as she ran. “Shielsia, wait!” Maria chased after her. “What about Tim?” Cassie was now holding the stroller. “Shielsia needs a guide to the hospital, watch him for me okay?” The tall dark haired girl yelled as she kept running. “I too must go, for she will need my comforting arms,” Pazzerelli’s voice solemn as he stood, but he was tugged back down by Cassie. “Sit your keester down, we still have lots to discuss, perhaps even duel!” She smirked getting ready to activate her duel disk, but the babies wailing cries would keep them occupied from playing a game.
Shielsia ran way faster than Maria and soon was caught up in a purple haze. She stopped running when she realized she was passing the same light post over and over. It felt cold, too cold for early August. She slowly walked past the light one more time, to only come to the same light post again. The big bulb atop was glowing, but went out shortly after she stopped in front of it. “Shielsia Derru, it is time for you to pay up.” A scraggily voice resounded. Mistaking it for Pazzerelli just playing a cruel joke on her she laughed it off, “Feh, we had a deal and I went on your date, so the money is mine.” “Wretched cur.” A robed man walked toward her. His body a dark silhouette. “In the shadows a soul is legal tender, and it’s time for you to pay the rest of yours.” Shielsia glared at him, her hazel eyes practically becoming glowing orbs of maroon. “What do you know of my soul?” Suddenly she remembered this cold feeling. It was during the battle she had in Egypt where she had to duel an extremely powerful creature and lost. “I know nothing of your soul. I am a collector.” He stretched his arm from the sleeve of his robe. A skeletal limb, with a jagged looking triangle, almost resembling a duel disk appeared. His other hand exposed itself as well. The bony fingers grabbed his hood and lowered it. His head was a clean, white skull. It was a clever effect, when he spoke even his lower jaw opened up, showing nothing but blackness within the crevices of his teeth. “This is a lame trick dad!” She violently struck the skull’s jaw, which snapped it right in half. She backed up, feeling a cut in her own knuckle. The broken jaw bone actually scratched her! There were also bits of dust left on her hand from the strike which she shook off. The being bent over to retrieve his severed jaw with his bony fingers, speaking as he did so, the remainder of his jaw, leaving a lisping quality to his already hissed voice. “Thish j’ear child ish a shadow game.” He put his mouth back together with a cricketing sound of his bones. The triangle on his duel disk opened and he touched it. Soon he had five cards clenched between his bony fingers, he drew another. He threw one card in his graveyard zone, then placed a monster from his hand onto the field. Shielsia didn’t know what it’s attack points were because of all the fog and there were no digitally projected life point counters. “I’m not playing your shadow game, so just…” “So you pass?” He interrupted her, drawing again for his next turn. He attacked her directly with his monster. It was a warrior with glowing red eyes, slashing with a sword. “What the, stop!” She yelled, running away, but she didn’t get anywhere as the dark warrior slowly walked up to her and slashed her. She screamed out loudly in pain from the strike, falling to the ground motionless.
Wandering lost in the shadows Maria was looking for Shielsia. She also happened to get sucked into the darkness. She was having the same troubles of not getting anywhere, walking past the same light over and over. Then she heard it. The ear drum shattering scream. “Shielsia?!” Maria called out, her own voice echoed back at her with a hellish pitch. She covered her ears whimpering not wanting to hear it anymore.
“To end my turn, I will use Dark Grepher’s effect once more.” He didn’t mention that he set a trap card as well. Another card from his hand and deck went to the graveyard due to the effect of Dark Grepher, the monster that struck her. “So it’s your move again.” His bony teeth continuously smirking at her, his eye holes staring at her lying body, waiting for her to get up. He placed his finger again on his deck, getting ready to draw. He was assuming she would not put up a fight. “Your soul is easier to collect than your father’s.” “I’m not even… started…” Grunting each syllable, Shielsia weakly got to her knees. The attack she had suffered was immense, she was sure she lost more than half her life points. She turned her duel disk on, and it read that she only had 300 life points remaining. “300?! You cheap piece of spit!” She flailed her arms at him angrily. “You should be ready at all times, if you’re a duelist.” He shrugged. “It is not my fault you failed to gravitate the importance of this duel.” She drew six cards and since it was technically her second turn, she drew yet another card. “Gravitate this!” She threw her monster in attack mode. It was a red headed female, holding a large axe in it’s hand. It had 1600 attack points, which read in a meter beside it. “Great, why does my duel disk have an automated score keeper, while yours doesn’t.” Shielsia whined, she was hardly taking this shadow game seriously; it was like any other duel to her. Her father had told her about the shadow games when she was young. He said they were legendary duels in which players would fight with their souls in order to gain power. Shielsia had no soul to lose, so she could only gain power, which she wasn’t quite thirsting for that either. So this shadow game was just an annoyance. Frustrated because of this ghoulish creature she continued. “You’re in my way, so now I play Spellbook Star Hall.” The spell card’s hologram created by her duel disk, created two rows of pillars, each one surrounding her and connected by bright glowing arches.
Maria already defeated by the shadows was cowering on the ground hoping the nightmare would just end, until she saw the bright lights of Shielsia’s Star Hall. She got to her feet and headed for that direction. “Now my monsters will get stronger by 100 points for each Spellbook I play.” Shielsia continued. “Dark Grepher is worthless to me, destroy it.” Her skeletal opponent laughed. “I won’t just destroy it, but I will put a fearsome dent in your life points. My Strength of Prophecy isn’t strong enough, but with my Spellbook of power, she will gain 1000 more points.” Strength opened a book and flipped through it’s pages. She grabbed her axe, which also began to glow with the Spellbook’s power. The Spellbook Star Hall gained a shining bright orb. This orb gave Strength of Prophecy another hundred points. Her attack was now 2700, it’s attack points increased by yet another 500 as Shielsia activated it’s effect, returning Spellbook of power from her graveyard to her deck. “As you can see, my Strength will even things up a bit.” It was hard to tell, but Shielsia was smirking through the shadows. Though her amply round bosom was heaving as she panted for air. She wouldn’t notice it yet, but being in the shadow realm was exhausting her. Strength of Prophecy clenched her axe tightly and swung it against Dark Grepher’s sword, destroying the monster and dealing 1600 points of damage to the Skeleton man. He gripped his sides with his bony hands, keeping himself stood up. His hands clanked together as he clapped. “Again, that monster was meaningless-“ Cutting him off Shielsia continued her turn. “Meaningless to you, but useful to me; whenever Strength destroys a monster she searches one Spellbook card from my deck and adds it to my hand.” She revealed and activated her Spellbook tower, which gave her yet another spell counter of her Star hall. Now two bright lights shined boldly. Behind the Star Hall, the Grand silver tower stood.
Now running at an exhausted rate Maria was heading for the large silver sky scraper. She recognized that card and knew Shielsia was close. She was still under the impression that Shielsia would be lost getting to the hospital. Seeing the card hologram up ahead made her a bit mad at her friend, for messing around with a card game.
“Before ending my turn, I’ll put this card face down.” A large card back appeared on the ground in front of her. It didn’t float like in the virtual duels. She glanced over at the creepy skull being and saw there was a card back by his foot too. A trap card! Why didn’t he play it? She wondered. Now she thought it probably was a special card that needed a certain circumstances to set it up, but she would try hard not to let it get played. The skull drew again. “You can barely stand let alone defeat me.” His empty gaze pierced her. His voice more hollow than ever. He was right. Shielsia’s breathes were labored. She stood leaning all her weight to her right leg, just to keep balance. She looked at her limited life points. Just one attack and she would be done for. “Right, don’t forget, you’re just a waste of time.” “Is that what you think I am?” He was willing to stall as long as he could to keep exhausting her. She wouldn’t allow that and played his game. “No screwing around, or else I’ll skip your turn, just like you skipped mine.” She warned and was more than willing to do it as well, feeling it would’ve been fair play. Though as she drew she noticed he had already set a card face down in defense mode. He chose not to announce it to her, thinking she would actually wait for him to play a card. She huffed and rocked her shoulders, gazing at the card she drew. “Nothing good huh?” “It’s great, but first I activate my Spellbook of tower effect.” “You can’t, or did you forget that you used your Strength’s effect last turn to send your only spellback, therefore you can’t draw an extra card.” Revealing her face down Quick-play spell card, her Star Hall gaining yet another Spell Counter, increasing the volume of light, the shadows were starting to fade. “Spellbook Organization will not only show me how I’m going to defeat you, but arrange the cards atop my deck.” Gripping her fist angrily, doing her best intimidating display to frighten her opponent, “Now I can control my prophecies!” She was losing her cool. The tension from being in the shadow game was tolling her out of energy. She looked at her top three cards. Though gazing at each one felt so tedious... She placed them atop her deck in a specific order that she chose. Then used her tower’s effect to return the card she just played to the bottom of her deck in order to draw one new card. With the same frozen expression on his face, the skull continued to stare her up and down mischievously. He knew she could easily rip through his defense, but that was just fine by him. She set one monster face down. It appeared by her feet. She weakly threw another Spellbook card into her duel disk. Within the brightly lit halls a large glowing orb with the sun and moon appeared. “It is my library of the crescent. I have so many Spellbook cards from my deck, but you can pick one out of three to give to me, choose wrong and you will lose the duel.” Hardly able to form a sentence she got to one knee, her body was dripping with sweat, deodorant long used up, her pony tail was like a damp brush hanging out of bandana. Before when she was dueling in the real world without these exhausting shadows she would toy with her opponents by predicting the outcomes of each duel. Now she could hardly move. If this was the real world she would’ve won by now, her opponent was average at best, but this shadow magic she was feeling, she was feeling. Feeling! She got back to her feet. “Good choice!” She grinned playing her Spellbook of power once again to increase her Strength’s attack and allow her to keep searching for Spellbook cards after she beat down his monster. “What, where is this strength? You shouldn’t be able to stand!” He screeched at her. “I can feel it.” She closed her eyes. She placed a card in her spell and trap card zone. “My soul that is, lost to the shadows and now that I’m in these shadows I can feel a connection to it!” Her body was still exhausted, but her spirits were higher than they have been for months. “Your game is through, Strength destroy his monster!” Gave her Strength a thumbs up to attack. Strength’s giant axe struck down into the ground, beneath it was a collection of dust and bones.
On her knees, Maria was now watching the duel. For some time she had cried out for Shielsia, but the same howling screeches of her own voice echoed back at her. She could see everything so clearly because of the many lights of Shielsia’s hall. When she saw the opponent she was horrified to see it was a fiendish looking monster. Her gasps echoed and she tried to get near Shielsia, but there was that invisible barrier. It wasn’t just a sound barrier, she couldn’t be seen, nor touched by either player in the shadow game.
“You destroyed my Lady in Wight, another monster whom I not required, up until this point.” The skull was ready to make his move. “Make it fast!” Shielsia as spunky as ever teased the top of her deck, with her drawing finger, warning of a turn skip. “I send a monster from my deck to the grave with Foolish Burial.” He revealed the normal monster Skull Servant, which looked just like him. “Are you a cosplayer?” Shielsia cocked her brow. “As much of a fool as you are.” He riddled her, then played his Tri-Wight spell card. Soon the 3 Skull Servants he had been sending to the graveyard throughout this duel returned. Each being looking exactly like the duelist, popping out of graves formed in front of him. Their rotting corpses wriggling about. “Z-zombies…” Shielsia squeaked, but they were so pitifully tiny she could step on them. “Hehhehe! Take this you little shits!” She chased down each monster, stomping on them with her new heels. “Renounce your mockery, my three beings are no joke, not when combined with 3 of a kind!” The trap card he had played at the beginning of the duel. “Not that!” She knew how it could destroy 3 of her cards instantly when the opponent had 3 monsters of the same name. Her Strength was destroyed, as was her tower and Star Hall. Using Tower’s effect she summoned Fool of Prophecy in attack mode. The Fool lazed about holding a canister of high grade whiskey, his shaggy robes had the same ribbons as all the other Prophecy monsters. “Since you destroyed my Tower, my Fool takes its place.” Shielsia now once again concealed in darkness announced.
With the Star Hall gone, Maria could barely see Shielsia. She could still hear, but she was too exhausted to care anymore, “Shielsia…your…father…” She fainted, but she heard the last thing the skeleton man said. “I know you’ve lost your soul, but did you also lose your brain?” He smirked, “You lost your power up so your foolish Fool only has 1600 attack points.” As the Skeleton was insulting him, the Fool just tipped his hat, swigged his drink, and tossed his staff over his shoulder, twitching a bit of barley between his teeth. “He’s still five times stronger than your worthless skulls.” She reminded him. “Not stronger than the King of Skull Servants!” He played a new monster, which had 3000 attack points. This attack power was unbeknownst to Shielsia. At first glance this new monster appeared to be exactly like the other weaker Skull servant cards, but a throne appeared behind him. It was made out of the bones of other monsters. Shielsia recognized one set, being the Lady in Wight card she destroyed last turn. “So what’s it’s attack?” “You’ll find out, after it devours your soul.” He raised his arm. “Attack my king.” The King of Skull Servants came at Shielsia’s Fool who was too drunk to realize what was going on. She knew he wouldn’t survive, but she also couldn’t get over that throne of dead monsters. Were they in the graveyard? If so… “Reveal, Transmigration Prophecy!” “Hm, that card only affects the graveyard.” He snickered at her desperate attempt. Unsure of how his monster had it’s power she knew he was right, though she targeted his Lady in Wight and the other monster he discarded to activate Dark Grepher’s effect earlier in the duel; Wightmare. The King’s throne broke apart and the Fool of Prophecy lazily swung it’s staff and knocked the King’s skull clear off. “You… you.. you witch, how?!” “Your monster gains attack points from everything you’ve played in the graveyard and since your Lady in wight and your other, I’m assuming Skull servant like card are now in your deck he loses power!” “Your soul… I must have it!” He screamed running past the field of skull monsters and Fool, trying to attack her. Holding her hand above her head and her foot forward in a stance, she twitched her shoulders and punched him in the face. His body disappeared, as well as the shadows, but Shielsia stood in the light of day with a dusty old skull stuck to her wrist. “Ewyuck! Get it off!” She lobbed her arm about until the thing turned to dust. She freaked running to a stream, passing the fainted Maria. “Yo.. Yo… Hey… Wake up!” The booming sound of Shielsia’s voice hit Maria like a rock and she stood up. Her lanky limbs reached around Shielsia’s waist and hugged her tight. Shielsia patted her head, and used the side of her sleeve to get the skull dust off. Maria went on to show her where the hospital was. In the hospital room, where Davoski’s body lay lifeless, the Drown’s; including Gaidra stood solemnly. Shielsia ran up to her dad. She knew she should be sad for this loss, but she just stared downwards at him. “Dad.” She couldn’t feel a thing, almost missing the shadows grip on her soul. She gazed at his lifeless face as he lay tucked under the covers of the hospital bed. “He’s not dead.” Mr. Derru placed his hand on Shielsia’s shoulder comfortingly. “He looks dead.” She breathlessly replied. “No, he merely lost himself to the shadows.”
Maria stood outside the room, peaking in through the slit of the blinds. Today was a bizarre experience for her and she will not forget it, though she did forget her baby with Pazzerelli and Cassie. She wanted to be there to comfort Shielsia, so waited until she walked out. “Hey, how is he?” She shyly asked. Shielsia put an arm around Maria and began to confide in her. “It’s a long story, with Egyptian pharaohs, and shadow games!” She began, almost sounding like she was making the tale up on the spot.
The Drown’s stood in the door way of Davoski’s room. Gaidra looked up to his father and handed him his deck. “You can have this back, I’ve got my own now.” “I see.” Mr. Derru sighed, he knew what his son was getting into. “You know your mother and I will always be right here for you.” Mrs. Drown wiped a tear from her eye. “Oh my sweet little angel is going to help his girlfriend get her soul back! It’s sooooo romantic.” “Yes… like one of your romance novels…” Mr. Drown sighed, while Gaidra embarrassedly ran away from them.
Pazzerelli and Cassie now had the baby crawling on the grass. His little hands and booty covered feet waddled about. There was a Six Samurai Shien Synchro card at one side of the child and a Harpie’s Phantasmal dragon Xyz card at the other side. They were going to see which one the baby crawled over too, whichever one he chose was decidedly better.
