Author's Note: Usually I don't write anything before my stories but I'll make an exception this once because I'm taking a new direction. I'm writing a slow paced story with a gradual build up. A brave departure from my previous one-shots. Also, these will be from Bruce's POV. If you're reading this be sure to hassle me about keeping it up, I usually lose momentum quickly.
I woke up with a headache and a sore body. I knew the Other Guy had taken over. I closed my eyes and tried to remember if I had hurt anyone. As usual the memories of what happened where barely there. I remembered running through a forest of evergreens and roaring, I held back tears. I thought that when I had put that gun in my mouth that both myself and the Other Guy would die but instead he spit the bullet out. I opened my eyes again and took in my surroundings. I was in a room with bright white walls, to my left there were several thin cots lining the wall and to my right there was a window. There was snow whirling around in the wind and frost building up on the outside of the window.
“Hello there.” A soft voice said. I turned around, and saw a petite woman with pale skin and blonde hair currently in two braids.
“Where am I?” I asked out of habit.
“You’re in a military infirmary, you’re safe. Do you remember anything that happened? How you ended up naked in a cave?” She replied.
Of course I knew but I was dealing with the military it was best to not let them know who I was. “I don’t remember much. I was camping with a friend, we were drinking and now I’m here.”
“I see. Do you mind if I check your vital signs?” She inquired.
“Go ahead.” I answered.
She took my temperature, blood pressure, and pulse. It was all standard procedure. She leaned close to me with a small smile and I noticed she had heterochromia. Her left eye was a light brown and her right eye was ice blue. “Everything looks normal.” She said. “How do you feel?”
Currently I was trying to regulate my breathing, although most people see me as a green rage monster the truth is that the Other Guy is awoken by any strong emotion.
“Are you in pain?” She asked with her soft voice.
“No.” I breathed. “I’m fine, just a little sore, my muscles I mean.”
“I’d like to give you something to ease the pain but using painkillers would thin out your blood, making it easier for your hypothermia to start again.” She explained.
“Acetaminophen wouldn’t thin my blood.” I countered.
“Acetaminophen is also a fever reducer. The last thing we want right now is for your basal temperature to drop down. Please just try to make it through the next eight hours and we’ll be able to give you something for the pain. Is there anywhere in particular it hurts?” She said.
“The pain isn’t severe at all. It’s more of a dull ache all over my body.” I explained. “I do feel a lot better, I think I should leave.”
“Leave to where? There’s a snowstorm outside, no one will be able to get you in this weather. I hope you have someone else to pick you up instead of the friend that just left you in a cave.” She said.
“I do.” I assured her.
“Just stay in bed.” She stated.
I nodded in agreement. I laid in the bed for hours while the blonde woman sat in a chair by my bedside reading a book. I took a closer look and saw that she was reading a Norwegian translation of A Clockwork Orange.
“You’re bilingual?” I wondered out loud.
She turned to me and smiled. “No, I’m actually fluent in six languages and proficient in two other languages. I'm also proficient in dialects of the six languages—“
“Lance Corporal Larson!” A man’s voice boomed.
“Yes sir!” She stood at attention and saluted.
“You are relieved.” The man informed her.
“Sir yes sir!” She shouted. She grabbed her book and quickly strode out of the room leaving me with the man.
