In China the star shaped morning glory it a symbol of the day the Chinese lovers Chien Niu and Chih Neu meet. After falling in love they began to neglect their work. As punishment they were sent to leave on the separate sides of the Silver River. They were allowed to meet once a year.
In the Victorian language of flowers morning glories represent "love in vain". Morning glories are also associated with the month of September.
