~Chapter One~
"I just want to be single," the text message read. Danielle reread it over and over, hardly believing it was true. Tears started to fall from her green eyes. Her hands shook as she brushed her auburn red hair out of her face and a knot formed in her stomach.
"Y-you're breaking up with me??" She texted her boyfriend, Sam, back. She scooted back on her bed, so that her back was against the wall, and curled her knees to her chest and cried softly. Next to her, her phone gave a soft BUZZ, telling her she had new message. It was from Sam. Danielle's heart sank when she opened and read it.
"Yeah, sorry" is all it said. After six months of a relationship, this was the break up she was getting? That he just wanted to be single? She fell over on her side into her sea of pillows.
Danielle woke up the next morning, somewhat unsure of if what happened last night, really happened. She searched through her pillows for her phone. When she had it in her hand, she scrolled through her messaes and, to her dismay, saw the message.
"I just want to be single," she whispered to herself, tears prickling her eyes. She gripped her phone tightly, and had to stop herself rom throwing it across her bedroom.
"Why...?" she asked her self, her voice shaky and cracking. "Why are you doing this to me?!" She yelled at Sam, even though she knew he couldn't hear her. "I loved you so much! How could you do this to me!?" she yelled, sobbing hard.
She threw herself down onto her pillows and she cried harder than she ever had before. Her heart was pounding in her chest. She felt like a two-year-old having a tantrum, but she didn't care.
Danielle wanted Sam back. She wanted him to text her and tell her it was a mistake. But no such message came. As the time passed, her sobs got lighter and the tears started to slow. She rolled onto her back on her bed and wiped her eyes. Just then her phone gave a BUZZ. She nearly jumped out of her skin, thinking it was Sam. But then she looked and it was from her close friend, Mike.
"Good morning beautiful (:" it read. Though Danielle was upset, the message made her smile. Mike was her best friend, and had been for years. He always seemed to know when she needed someone to talk to.
"Sam broke up with me..." She texted him back. She felt the tears prickling her eyes again, but none spilled over. She had no more tears to cry right now. Her phone buzzed again.
"WHY??" he demanded. She could almost hear the alarm in his voice.
"He just wants to be single..." she explained. Her heart ached as she typed the message. Typing it to Mike made it real...
"I'm coming over, I'll be ther in 20" Mike's reply said. She sighed softly and smiled a little. Her bestfriend... Always knew when she needed him.
