Innocent blood was shed
To set His people free
One dark night
He was led to the cross
Although He did no wrong
He was silent and didn’t defend His case
He knew what must be done must be done
So His innocent blood was shed
To set His people free
To show that He loves us
His innocent blood was exchanged
For our guilty blood.

We are guilty
We are the shamed
But because His innocent blood was shed
When we enter into His presence
There is no accusation
There is no condemnation
Our blood is considered innocent
Our soul counted as righteous
Because one dark night
Our Savior shed His innocent blood for us.

He did it because He loved us
Not because He felt obligated too
He did it because He wanted too for us
Not because He was forced too
The nails didn’t hold Him on that cross
It was His love for you and me.

If He wanted to
He could have taken Himself down
From that cross
But because of His great love
He stayed there
While all His blood was poured out
While people still mocked Him
He stayed silent
Waiting for His Father
He did it because He loved us.

Kept on forgiving
His only crime was love
But His innocent blood was shed for you and me.

Makes us clean
We are now His beloved
We are washed white
His redeeming love saved us
Shame has no place
There is no accusation in His presence
God is in love me
And He looks at me
And sees His Son Jesus
