If you were paying attention recently, you probably noticed that EF* was reconfigured to just contain help threads and guides and such. That's a good thing because after SF was created, there wasn't really a need to use EF as a feedback holder like it was originally designed. No longer did things in Q&F need to be moved there. There wasn't really a standard or reason to move things from SF to EF.
But now EF is filling with crap. Everyone (or at least Q&Aers and WtGers) wants to make a name for themselves by having a guide. Some new guides are actually good, but I generally believe they would have been eventually made under the old configuration. I'm talking about the new Q&Aers and so on that think that making a guide will up them to "prommie" or "regular" or some other BS like that.
A lot of them make guides about things that are general knowledge to everyone (pretty much defeating the purpose of the guide). Others simply lack knowledge beyond the surface of the topic (and sometimes even that) they are trying making the guide for. Yet others lack the communications skills necessary to convey information (no, the use of pictures does not automatically equate to understanding) even if they possess the requisite knowledge. Or a combination of these shortcomings.
This produces a lot of guides that convey knowledge everyone already knows at a very poor level. Yet, in an effort to be fair, guides are not judge on quality and horribly guides are allowed to remain in EF. Making a guide requires someone to be an articulate and skillful expert. Sorry to break it to you (and by you I mean most of Gaia), but you are not even close to being at a level where you can competently help others. So please, for the love of whatever you love, stop filling it with crap and making me and everyone else hate you.
Having a bad guide is not some magical tonic that will make you famous and powerful on Gaia. Well, okay, you might become famous for making laughably bad guides. Stop trying to find shortcuts. Hard work is the only way.
* now known as Gaia Guides & Resources, but much like the Q&F/Q&A forum, it will continue to be known as EF. I can just imagine some uppity new age Q&Aer telling me that it was never Q&F or EF.

YES! gonk
Does that make me a bad person since I just made a guide in there? Granted, I made it back in May 05 and it's not ready yet but...blah. I already had fame with my invisibob so I don't see why I'd make a guide for that reason anyway.
Some guides are stupid like links on the forum index and subforums. WTF? >_> People can't search for it? Okay...
There are way too many guides there now but EF was kinda made for that purpose (ie: throw all the junk that Q&F doesn't need in there--ex: petitions). Usually these guides die and someone makes another one. D:
Or the same one. Too bad I did that accidentally. I had mine since May okay?? gonk
