Keira and her youngest brother, Alexander were at a sleepover party at a friend's house at the time of the killings. Their lives had been spared...for the moment. The police and child services came to pick them up that night and took them to another city and kept them in custody temporarily to keep them safe. Whoever had sent assassins to kill the family, would be sending people to finish off these two. Keira was 8 years old at the time and Alexander was 5. It was decided that custody of them would be given to some of their relatives. They had a distant aunt that lived in Alaska. Alexander's custody was given to her. Keira's custody was given to her uncle Andrus, who lived in a city that was 2 hours away from where she had lived. The relatives thought it was best to keep the children separated so they would be harder to find.
What the police didn't know was that Andrus was actually involved in some mafia business so Keira was not going to be completely safe with him. However, he had her change her looks and had her change her last name so no one would know they were related. When she came to live to his mansion, she was introduced to everyone as Andrus' godchild and that she was an orphan and had promised her parents to look after her. Keira knew this story was half true and her uncle didn't bother to hide her parents' murder to her. He was very frank when he told her what had happened to them and her oldest brother.
For 8 years she had lived in her uncle's mansion in safety and comfort, not knowing anything about her uncle's underground business. Her 17th birthday was coming near when she found out about it. She confronted Andrus about it and he replied that it was his business that had clothed her and fed her and kept her safe all these years and that as soon as she tried to leave this place, the people that killed her parents would come after her. Keira hated the mafia altogether. She had been born in the middle of it, grown up with it and her life had only received sorrow from it.
On her 21st birthday, Andrus told her Alexander was going to come for a visit and that her old childhood friend Gianfranco was coming too. Gainfranco was from an Italian family that had been very good friends with her family. He was the same age she was. Keira didn't remember much about him. What she was really excited about was in being able to see Alexander again.
Little did she know Andrus was planning to have Alexander and Gianfranco join their little mafia ring. Gianfranco had already started doing things for the gang but he had not been inducted officially. Alexander was now old enough to join and Andrus was pretty sure he would accept the invitation. Keira didn't want anything to do with it when Andrus had asked her if she would join.
Ignoring the purpose of her brother's and friend's visit, she hiked in the forest behind her uncle's mansion. As she was coming back from her daily hike, she saw the maids running around nervously. It seemed that her brother and friend had already arrived. The servants always acted like this every time they had important guests in the mansion. She went into the kitchen and drank some water and then headed to her room. She had to make sure she looked decent for the guests...
