Pronouncing Italian Vowels?
An a in Italian is pronounced like an English A in father or as in the exclamation AH!. Such as Anna (Ahn-nah).
An e in italian is pronounced like the e in bet. Or as in the exclamation EH!? Emma (Ehm-mah)
I is pronounced like the I sound in machine or exclamation ehh! Ida (Eeh-dah)
O is pronounced like the o in sorry or as in the exclamation oh! As in Otto (oht-toh.
U is pronounced like oo in boot. Exclamation is ohh! Ugo (Ooh-goh)
Introducing yourself
Asking someone’s name directly in Italian you could say:
Come ti chiami? What is your name?
You answer with:
Mi chiamo my name is…
If you speaking in a third party you would say:
‘Lui’ come si chiama? What is ‘his’ name?
Lei come si chiama? What is ‘her’ name?
Try not to confuse Lui and Lei it’s insulting if you mix them up.
More formally you could say
Come si chiama il tuo amico?
What is your (male) friend’s name?
Come si chiama la tua amica?
What is your (female) friend’s name?
Same concept as Lui and lei, Do not confuse il tuo amico with la tua amica.
A trick is that Girls are A boys are u o. <_< I think that makes it harder or easier not sure… @_@
