Random Rating: Prototype
I'm here with a new Random Rating. I haven't done one in a while, but here it is!!
ANOTHER ONE!!!!!!
Just yesterday, the new open-world game Prototype was released.
In the game, you play as Alex Mercer, a bad@$$ punk who doesn't take anything from anyone. The game starts out with a cutscene that Alex narrates. The opening cutscene really shows promise. With STUNNING (I do mean STUNNING) graphics and great action. You'll really feel like you're watching a movie called "James Bond WITH POWERS!!!!!".
Alex has no idea what is going on. In the game you try to regain your memory by consuming the minds of others. And don't worry. This isn't Destroy All Humans!
All he can remember is his sister's name "Dana" and that he woke up in a morgue after a post-apocalyptic infection. The doctors were about to scalpel him open, when BAM!!!!!
He wakes up!!
Alex leaves the building that he finds out is called "Gen-Tech".
And all the military is after him. He is an escaped experiment. They need him back.
But all Alex wants is to find out what happened and to stop the infection. He lives with Dana to hide out. And Dana is the only one who can help.
You can consume people who know something about you to fill up your "Web". It holds clips of memories of that person. And sometimes you find someone who holds a memory involving you and/or the infection.
This game HIGHLY resembles Crackdown. But this game is much better than Crackdown. You can do more in Prototype than you can in Crackdown. You can make more KABOOSH and PAPOW noises. biggrin
There are, of course, upgradable abilities. You can unlock more powers like the Shield or the HammerFists. Or you can upgrade old ones, like making your speed faster, increasing maximum health, and so forth. So far, my personal favorite is the glide power.
That's another good thing. Travelling in the modern New York is very fun. You can glide over rooftops, sprint up walls to skyscrapers, hi-jack a tank, or just RUN!!!
Of course, with the power of consuming, there is some disguising. You can consume ANY human you find. Then you will get any memories or abilities they hold. For instance, if you consume a tank driver, you gain the ability to hi-jack and drive tanks. Or if you consume a Commander of a military base, you gain entrance inside the base.
Or you can just consume a random civilian and take his shape.
Most powers are still available when disguised. You can still glide (if you unlocked it yet) and you can sprint up walls and everything. But if you have the claw or shield powers, then you won't be able to use them while you are disguised as someone other than yourself. But it's still fun!
One good thing as well is the update at the beginning of the game. Before you say "An update's an update!! That's it!! BORING!!!" then read this! If you are like me and don't have XBox LIVE, and you don't have the updated Dashbord that was revealed at E3 2008 then you should get it in the update. It's a pretty nifty little update.
Alright, now I know what you're thinking by now.
"Wow! You've only said good things about this game! How good is it?!"
Well, I'm not quite done!
There are some bad things about the game..... So here they are.
The game's text is very small and hard to read. So unless you have a decently large TV set, then prepare to squint your eyes!
Sometimes enemies won't give you a break. Hunters are very annoying creatures that will most likely make you shout "AAAHH!!!! WTF!!!" at the screen within your first hour of playing.
Too many of the Achievements are Secret ones. There are very few that you can actually read about as soon as you start.
The lock-on feature can get a little frustrating. Often you could be looking directly at an enemy and press the lock-on button and it will target an innocent person or a helicopter VERY far away. Making you very vulnerable to an attack.

But I guess that's about it. This game is pretty awesome! If you haven't gotten it, GET IT!!!!!!!
And overall, Prototype gets a 8.9 out of 10
