selene: what exactly does the title mean?

luna: exactly as it says. we have to discuss the way of things when it comes to using force.

himeko: ...you must be pissed at wraithtaker.

luna: what do you expect? he can't go, my mom's afraid of leaving me alone with anyone other than him even though there are girls that are going to be there, some of the stuff from my bag o' sweets has gone missing, and i have to face Houdini alone, especially since i got pissed at him in English and ended up hitting him with a book.

yukiko: then you don't really have a right to judge him for confronting an idiot.

luna: that's the problem. i confront idiots, but not by using much noticeable force. i hit him with a book because i knew that he would stop when i did! plus, not many people were witness to it, so i was safe. i didn't have to yell at him, only hit him by his shoulder.

himeko: so what's the difference between you and wraithtaker?

luna: i'm not as confrontational as he is. i confront people, but not very often. mostly, i just insult others or yell at them. i don't see the need to hit them unless it is either necessary or i have to vent. other than that, there's no point.

selene: so what do all the confrontational people have to do? they don't have the nature to follow Machiavelli's example whereas you and Houdini do.

luna: well they have to learn, especially when concerning the "thugs." i mean, of course they're going to side with the thug. Machiavelli mentioned in chapter 17 of The Prince that it is better to be feared than loved when one of the two must be lacking.

yukiko: well, it might be easy for you because you are a generally passive person. many people you know are generally passive people and they only hurt others for the sake of hilarity, like Black Light and her friends.

luna: Black Light Company is not that passive, but at least she knows where her place is.

himeko: yes, she does. but, do you think Machiavelli can apply outside of organizations?

luna: of course. you have to be Machiavellian when it comes to you social life, too. you have to have good arms and good friends.

selene: ...elaborate.

luna: good arms means you have to be able to confront in any manner effectively without getting into a great amount of trouble. good friends means you have to have people on your side.

selene: so you had good arms in that you were able to use a book and choice words. you had good friends in the girls and boys present. the girls supported you action and the guys sided with you because it made them laugh.

luna: well, that's true. i did really kick Taylor in the a**.

himeko: that sounds hilarious. you didn't have to beat him up, did you?

luna: nope. just one kick did him in. besides, i bet his package is microscopic anyway.

yukiko: that's true. what about your "husband?"

luna: we're "over." HALLELUJAH!!!! *the chorus plays in the background.

yukiko: aren't you afraid that he'll be super pissed when he reads this?

himeko: yeah, he's not one of the most agreeable people in the world when it comes to insults and complaints directed at him.

luna: i lived many days after insults and complaints, didn't i? i was able to pretend that i had gotten a referral for hitting a guy in eighth grade. i think i can live through one more of his fits.

selene: well, that's somewhat reasonable. so, what are you going to do about the movie?

luna: hope that Black Light will be going so my mom doesn't have to accompany me. this sucks hard.

himeko: i'm not sure that's a good idea. what about Becca?

luna: her boyfriend might be there, but i hope not for the time being.

yukiko: can't you get a guy to pose as your date?

luna: that gives her more of a reason for her to come with me. no, it has to be a girl and, though she's crazy, Black Light is the only other one i can trust. besides, this is the night that my bag o' sweets has to be emptied.

himeko, yukiko, and selene: that's true.
