There are a few things in life that are inescapable: death, work, and taxes. Everyone dies eventually, taxes will always have to be paid, and work is something we can’t live without. Slavery is mainly Southern farmers getting people to do the work, they will have to do sometime in life, why not now. Yeah, sure slavery has awful consequences, families broken and some dead, but it’s done for the greater good of the South, slaves families can proudly say they helped build up the South to greatness. I don’t see why they make such a deal and protest, their own people did this to them, they sold them, we bought them, that’s all there is to it.
Slaves were used to get work done, their slave owners had to work equally hard to get things done and to make a money. Slave codes were invented to prevent rebellion among the slaves, and if the slaves would realize, life sucks for everyone but there is always someone worse off and just work through the pain and agony and soon the sun will shine, there wouldn’t be codes. Whites punished very time slaves did something wrong, harsher treatment, less food, whippings, but then the slaves get upset and do more things wrong, making the previous punishment worse, it’s a cycle. Slaves that did their work well and without protest would have no reason to be whipped.
