Better Than You (On Time)

I guess "Better Than You" will sort of be like Family Guy's "grind my gears." My little ranty-type entries where I nerd-rage about certain things in life, and how stupid some people are. wink

Today's subject is "On Time."

I don't know what the heck is so hard about people being on time for things lately. If its not a job, or something of similiar importance, its as though its not important at all.

If I say I'm going to be somewhere at 4pm, I'll be there at 3:50, just to make sure I keep my word. My promises MEAN something, and I feel that I was raised to keep my word to the best of my ability. If I somehow can't make it, I use my phone and CALL said person or organization and let them know I'll be late, or that I won't be coming.

More and more people around me, I'm noticing, just don't care. They show up when they want, if at all, regardless of when they said they'd be there. This takes them down a notch or two in my book.

Example:

Friend: Hey lets meet at (eating place) at 3:00, okie? I'm running a Dungeons and Dragons game at 5:00, so lets hang out until then!
Me: Okie!
Friend: See ya!
Me: *shows up at 2:40-ish with a newspaper, and wait.*
Friend: *not there at 3.*
Friend: *not there at 3:30.*
Me: *calls friend* Hey where are you?
Friend: Heyyyyy... sorry I just woke up I'll be there in 20.
Friend: *Not there at 4:30.*
Me: *impatient, call friend* Hey, where are you NOW?
Friend: Heyy, just heading out the door! Be right there.

4:55, he shows up, and has to attend his game rather than hang out. I felt wronged, and no longer rely on him for anything concerning a certain time of day. His girlfriend, who works at said eating place, nods and tells me he's never really on time for much of anything these days.

That was just a single example, I could name many more if I sat to think, involving different friends within the last month or sixth weeks. More and more lately, people not showing up where/when they should. I feel that I was raised to be where the heck I say I'm going to be, especially when I tell someone I will be there, especially--ly... friends and loved ones.
