The eloquence of speech and grace are highly related to the influence that a person has. The perception that the world has of a person such as Dorian Grey or Lord Henry is overwhelmed by the outwards personality that they convey. Though they use different mediums, both of these two men are able to draw attention away from discrimination by being exceptionally noticeable. Dorian’s charming looks show him in a favorable light to the world which surrounds him. In this way, those who surround him are blind to any unfavorable truth and let themselves be readily received. Without his looks, there would be far fewer intrigued and infatuated with him, and he would be able to exert a good deal less in the way of influence.
Lord Henry exerts himself through his eloquence of speech and action. He often adds offending interjections into conversation and creates controversy but yet he is still not shunned. He is admired. A good deal of this is drawn from how well and persuasively he can convey his thoughts even if they are in opposition to general opinion. He is able to leave more of a mark by how he says what he thinks than others who are of a more normal demeanor.
