One day I went for a walk through the forest, Intent on finding the source of the river within. I followed it, and came upon a great pool, aside a cliff. The pool was feeding the river; I had found the source. But where, then, did the source of the pool come from?
I dove in, shattering the glassy face of the water.
Once the bubbles had cleared, I scanned its depths. On the far side of the pool I saw it: a hole. I swam towards it, clueless as to how far it went. On I swam, to fascinated to worry whether I'd breathe again. I had found the source again.
I broke the surface of the water.
I found myself in a cave, dimly lit by an unknown source. Water silently rolled through the middle of the cave. I pulled myself onto the riverbank beside me. For the first time, I looked around me, taking in the setting. The pristine sound of the drips from stalactites filled my mind.
I mindlessly followed the river's path.
I continued for some time, taking in the beautiful scene, When I came across a wide gap with a bridge. The water was turbulent here, and the bridge looked unsafe. Beyond the bridge I saw yet more tunnel. I would have to face my fear to see the source.
I proceeded to cross the bridge.
I was halfway across when suddenly the earth shook! I dropped to my knees, trying not to fall in. I saw then that the path behind me was collapsing! I ran with all my speed, trying to make it, But my strength alone wasn't enough...
I fell into the water, completely disoriented.
I woke up on the far shore. the water spared me. Seeing that there was no way back, I pressed on, searching yet again for the source. Ahead of me, up river, I found an intense light. I ran towards it, shielding my eyes, forgetting the cave behind me.
I had found the source, and it was beautiful.
