Safe
It’s like a blue sea glazed over with a thin layer of ever slowly melting ice, disappearing only when you can see no farther. And beyond it, who knows?
Bobbing along are islands of snow and chunks of ice. They look as though they could support my weight but I knew I’d pass right through as if I didn’t exist. Like a ghost.
The danger is hidden below the surface. Peaking underneath the foggy glass floor is a whole world of busy bodies, shrunk into the size of nothing at all. And right here, right now, all of them were just nothing.
