Time for me to get some character concepts down--essentially these are what may become the four main characters of this upcoming fic.
Hiroshi Nagai
Aliases: Hiro
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Description: Medium-height, medium-build. Short, spiky black hair and brown eyes.
Backstory: A hot-blooded, lively genius of a teenager, Hiroshi has always had an interest in the stars since early childhood. On the topic of black holes, he can't help but ramble over what he knows about them to no end, but when he joined the 81st Frame Meister Battalion, he originally thought he would be doing research on artificial black holes--instead he was made the test pilot of a Combat Frame that was said to use the power of gravity under the guise of "research". Though Hiro is currently unaware (and clueless) to the fact that he is being used as a weapon of war, it is only a matter of time until he realizes this, and his experiences as a member of the 81st will only hasten that self-fulfilling prophecy.
Frame Type: Humanoid
Frame Weapons: 2x Heavy Knuckle, 1x Cross-Bladerang (Stored on left forearm module), 2x Foot Blade.
Magic Capabilities: Can warp in a single-shot Gravity Rifle via an artificial black hole; Frame can transform into a giant sword Hiroshi can use while his Magic reserves are still full.
Trivia: Hiro's Frame is loosely based on the Huckebein Boxer as seen in the Super Robot Wars series.
Escart Courtwell
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Description: Short, brown hair and brown eyes. Curiously enough wears what looks like a Male Blade's outfit as seen in Flyff even though he's clearly not from Flyff-verse; Right-handed.
Backstory: The son of the late Ratsul Courtwell, Escart had left the kingdom of Paladi after vanquishing the Dark Lord...or so he thought. Enlisting the help of his elf friend Leena and his trigger-happy Machine comrade-in-arms AST-1337K (a.k.a., "Big Guns" wink , the three embarked on a new quest to hunt down the Dark Lord once and for all, unaware that the three would find themselves in a completely different world.
Class: Fighter
Weapons: 2x Longsword
Magic Abilities: Can self-heal (but not party heal); Also capable of using magic to adapt to unfamiliar technology as he did during his first encounter with the Machine "race" back in Rucell City (VK1 event).
Erica Hartmann (No relation to her Strike Witches-verse counterpart)
Aliases: Ace in the Hole, Ace of Spades
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Description: If you've seen her in Strike Witches, she looks exactly the same, so no surprise there. =P Oh, and she's also a righty.
Backstory: The "ultra ace" of the Republic of West Germany's "Neue Lutwaffe", Erica Hartmann is known for her impressive shoot-down count, which currently stands at 200. Not many would know this by looking at her as she tends to present herself as sloppy and the last person who is ever serious, at least that's outside of combat. Ever since she and her younger sister Ursula Hartmann were saved from an insurgent ambush by "The Boy Witch", Erica wanted to find out who this M61 Vulcan-toting male Strike Witch is. Her being transferred to the 81st's NATO Divison made that more possible...and more sooner than expected when she is teamed up with a Frame Meister whose resemblance to the enigmatic Boy Witch is far too strong to be a coincidence.
Weapons: MP40, MG42
Magic Capabilities: Um, Do a barrel roll? *coughsturmcough*
Jack R. Gatling
Aliases: Vulcan Hare, Bunneh Boi
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Description: Short, dark purple hair, white bunny ears, brown eyes; Medium, slender yet muscular build; Left-handed;
Backstory: Known as the Vulcan Hare, Jack is an ace of the 81st NATO Division with an unbelievably high confirmed kill count of 350 enemy units and a gunnery accuracy so high that he is rumored to be able to "steer" his shots even after firing them (Jack denies this rumor). His eerily innocent look and flamboyant, playful demeanor when not in combat is clearly false as the bunny boy is downright merciless on the battlefield. Upon meeting the newly transferred Witches Erica and Ursula Hartmann, the former one's reaction to his looks causes Jack to undergo a flashback that leaves him confused. Despite this he becomes fast friends with the three and after the elder Hartmann explained her story about her encounter with the "Boy Witch", Jack believed this was the same person he saw in his flashback and thus he agreed to help her find him. Currently Jack is unaware that the top brass is actually using him to distract the two Witches and keep them away from the one "project" containing the key to his past.
Frame Type: Reverse-Joint
Frame Weapons: 2x Gatling Missile Launcher (Mounted in place of the normal lower left and right arm parts), 4x GAU-12 25mm Gatling Cannon (Mounted on the backpack unit in a horizontal row)
Magic Capabilities: Can cast a self-buff allowing him to increase the velocity of his shots for enhanced armor piercing ability and rate of fire. However, this can lead to a weapon jam is used recklessly in addition to draining Magic reserves. (Rumor has it that this is the "Berzerker trance" Jack has been spotted going into during extremely heated combat.)
Trivia: Jack's Frame has a look similar to the HWR-00-MkII Monster from Macross, though its armament is somewhat different and is slightly more mobile than the Destroid that inspired it. Also, Jack has no relation to Richard J. Gatling, the inventor of the Gatling Gun (among other nifty inventions of his time period)--that's just a coincidence. =P
Random Plot Ideas
So far, here's what I've got in this regard, drawing from the above four characters' backstories:
- Escart Courtwell and his crew have managed to chase down the Dark Lord and corner him in Rucell City, but he manages to dispatch his pursuers by sending them into a different continuity...or so he thought. The Dark Lord is currently unaware that he just sent Escart, Leena, and AST-1337K (Big Guns) into the same continuity he escaped to, which is this one. He learns of something called "Neuroi" and begins to manipulate that to reanimate the corpses of countless Frame Meisters and Strike Witches that have perished in battle, becoming a threat to the UoN and the only serious challenge to the 81st Frame Meister Battalion.
- Meanwhile, Hiroshi is set to begin his first test of the Gravity Frame when his unit is attacked by what the 81st had recently identified as "Neuroi". They had taken the form of two Strike Witches and one Frame Meister and despite his inexperience in combat, Hiro, alongside his more battle-hardened comrades, manages to defeat them but when he uses the Gravity Rifle to take down the remaining Neuroi, he sees for the first time exactly how powerful black holes, even artificial ones.
- One month passes since the appearance of "Neuroi". Strike Witch Erica Hartmann and Witch-in-training Ursula Hartmann, both hailing from West Germany's "Neue Lutwaffe", are transferred to the 81st Frame Meister Battalion NATO Division as a joint exercise in Meister/Witch coordination training. Assigned to the same team as Frame Meister Jack R. Gatling, the three undergo live battlefield "training" as a proof of concept of the Meister/Witch combo deployment concept. Tasked with the eradication of insurgent groups in southern Europe, they stumble across a group of "Neuroi" that slaughter the remaining insurgents and go for them...until a certain M61 Vulcan-toting "Boy Witch" resurfaces once again.
- Long story short, the Dark Lord's manipulation of Neuroi, along with the corruption and devious plans of both the UoN and 81st will tie all three plots together at some point (Remember Erica and Jack's storylines are heavily intertwined). Also, the whole "Boy Witch" debacle will also tie into my previous fic, Flyff: Data Weapon Project "TANGRAM", but exactly how I'll pull that off is still not set in stone yet. @.@
