Well, it's been awhile since I last wrote anything in here so I figured I jot down some ideas for my next semi-original story fic. Here's what I have down so far--
1) Though it is an original storyline, there are three prevalent crossovers and they are the following:
- Valhalla Knights (Based on original characters I've created in my VK1 playthroughs taking place after the events of VK1.)
- Strike Witches (Technically more of a cameo and not a true crossover since there is no direct connection between this continuity and the Strike Witches continuity. However, alternate universe counterparts to two Strike Witches, Erica Hartmann of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing and Ursula Hartmann of the Sumous Independent Volunteer Aerial Squadron, are present in this storyline albeit in an all-new unit as the 501st Wing doesn't exist in this storyline.)
- Flyff: Data Weapon Project "TANGRAM" (Continues where forementioned fic ends. This will detail the bridge of events Combi Radcliffe experiences between the time of his time in Madrigal and an "endgame" fic taking place in the Virtual On universe, which he will star in.)
2) The Frame Meister concept is indeed derived from the Strike Witch concept in which both are magic users that fight using hybrid magical/mechanical equipment. What makes the Meisters distinct from the Witches is that Meisters are male (though there are female Meisters in the story, they're not very common as most of them become Strike Witches), and once you read the description of Heavy Combat Frames, you'll see how the Frame Meisters concept pokes fun of the fanservice aspect of the Strike Witches. o.O
3) Heavy Combat Frames
a) Design: The same way a Witch's Striker Unit enhances her physical and magic capabilities in addition to access to enhanced firepower, a Meister's Frame allows him the same advantages. However, they are radically different in design--for starters, the Frames are ground-based equipment worn like a large exoskeleton. The Frame has grips on the upper arms close to the main body so the Meister can manipulate the Frame's arms and utilize weapons and other equipment while the upper legs of the Frame are worn over the Meister's own legs. However, a Meister must wear what is known as a NDFCS, or Neural-Direct Feedback Control Suit, which look like sleek leotards (*Raises WTF? flag in dismay*) or a Speedo and rash guards underneath a armor-like vest. This vest contains many retractable wires that plug into sockets in the Frame's corresponding arm and leg module sockets. Since Meisters have to be ready to deploy on any whim's notice, they wear their NDFCSs while on standby. Note that the creator of the Heavy Combat Frames is a female scientist for use by male magic users (though once again, there are female Frame Meisters present, only that they're somewhat of a rarity), whereas the inventor of the Striker Units is male and intended it to be used by female magic users--a direct satire of the fanservice prevalent in Strike Witches (and the whole Mecha Musume genre in general). XD
b) Leg Types: Though no two Frames are alike, they all come in three flavors--humanoid, reverse-joint, and quadruped. Most melee-oriented Meisters prefer humanoid Frames for their flexibility and agility whereas gunnery-oriented Meisters gravitate towards the lumbering, tank-like reverse-joint Frames. Quadruped Frames happen to be rare as they were originally prototypes that never made it past the development stage, but they happen to be more mobile than humanoid Frames and can pack as much firepower as a RJ Frame. The main reason their numbers are so few is because they drain more of the Meister's magic reserves at a faster rate than the other two.
4) Setting: The setting takes place in an alternate-universe world around 1997. Most of the geography, natural and political, is the same as in the real world. However, this is also a world controlled by a corrupt international bureaucracy known as the Union of Nations, or UoN--They control elections in every nation across the globe, which also means they determine what wars will take place, who will launch them, who will fight them, and the outcome of such "wars", one prime example being Germany once again being divided into West Germany and East Germany, the latter being absorbed by a Neo Soviet Union proxy. To add to that, many of these wars are fought by proxy by various contract armies. One of these is the 81st Frame Meister Battalion, one of the most sought-after contract armies in this world. Having technology far advanced than any of the nations or even the UoN Army, rumors about Human Control Systems *coughdruggiescough* and other "illegal" technologies are rampant but even the UoN are at their mercy in that regard. (You can say that the 81st Frame Meister Battalion pays homage to the 81st Independent Mobile Battalion in Gundam SEED Destiny and C.E. 73 Stargazer, better known as "Phantom Pain" wink
Plot and character concepts coming next time. =P
