This isn't the story, although it's along the same lines. This happened a few nights ago, and this is the first time it's ever happened to me.
I had a seriously depressing dream a few nights ago. Well, actually, it wasn't the dream that was depressing, it was what happened afterwards.
At the beginning of the dream, I don't really remember what was happening. Something about a Halloween party. After the party, we were going for a walk, and we heard there was a new family down the street. This house was a weekend house. And they lived almost 8 hours away! We decided to check out their party.
Inside, it was one of the fanciest houses the I had ever seen. But it didn't matter, because there was something else that caught my attention.
There was someone who was upstairs, depressed and therefore was not down in the party. I decided to go and meet them.
Not expecting what I saw, I walked up the steps almost carefully. When I got to the top of the steps, I saw one of the people I most wanted to see. I missed him a ton.
I saw him, and walked up. "Hello, sir. I heard that you were feeling depressed. Can I help you?" He looked up and I saw skeptic recognition in his face. I had changed since I had seen him last.
I said, "Do you feel that you remember me from somewhere?"
"I don't know. I'm afraid to trust myself. I would want you to prove to me that you knew me before too." he said in a small voice.
I had cut my hair, gotten contacts, and grown since I'd seen him last. I obviously looked different, and I didn't quite know how to prove to him that I had known him. Then I had an idea. I pulled out my cell phone.
"Are you texting someone this late at night?" he asked, jokingly. I shook my head with a smile on my face, and turned my phone so that he could see the screen.
He stared for a long while. The he asked, the skepticism open in his voice, "How did you get this picture?"
"I took it of you. A few months ago. I don't know how to download pictures off the internet to my phone. Is this enough to convince you?" I asked.
In answer, he wrapped me in his arms. He whispered in my ear, "Yes. I remember you so much it almost hurts."
I stayed in his arms. I was happy. I was with someone I had missed so much, and he actually wanted to see me. (the last time I talked to him, he hadn't really seemed to want to) I whispered against his neck, "Please let this not be a dream, please let this not be a dream."
And then I woke up.
Do you see how sad that would be? I have never had a dream self say, 'Please let this not be a dream.' It sucked to realize that when I woke up.
I also realized how much it sucked not to really be in touch with them anymore. Two of them have seemed fairly OK with talking to me still, but the others do not seem to notice my notes, one in particular. It feels weird.
I will not rant anymore. I'm sorry to inconvenience anyone.
