The making of the silk cloak
I always felt very passionate about working on the Enchanted Book. All the poses and items for it have been very fun for me to work on. As the book continues to evolve the the larger items become more challenging to work with especially when there are other projects that need my attention. Although I don't take offense to honest user opinions such as "lazy" and "less effort", it certainly confuses me especially knowing how many work days/hours I spend on a particular item. However, comments like "This item didn't come out the way I had hoped/wanted thus I'm disappointed" or "I just don't like how it looks." is just as honest and much more understandable IMO. /endrant

Anyway, moving on to the cloak now. xd

Basically I wanted to create a drapey cloak with a hood. Because of its construction, I didn't expect it was going to be very difficult. Actually, Juno warned us that capes were going to be a pain, but I forgot and I ended up making one anyway. sweatdrop And it's a cape different from most previous capes. I had to rework the drape a few times because the first was too wrinkly and detailed, especially the back views. It had to look "silky".

Now the hard part. Because of the cloak's construction, it required more parts to it due to the arm changes for both front/back, sit/stand poses. See the image below. The arm that's farthest towards the back of the image plane didn't require much but the arm closest to the front did. This process took me a little over 5 working days to complete then I had to fix it up to suit the other gender. I had to be extra careful and make sure there weren't any obvious "breaks" when a user decides to change arm poses.

Thanks goes to DrinkyTengu for the cloak's data entry. Now that we have Gaia's first pose complex cloak, I would love to make more like it. heart

I love the way it turned out. It seems just perfect of a representation of what a cloak should be like. Just like a normal fabric, your movement will cause ripples and folds all along the surface. It looks sooo good. heart

Make sure to get some sleep though, okay Buki? iirc it's 3AM over in Cali.

I'm really amazed at the work you put into this cloak. It's really wonderful. The folds and positioning are so well done, and I know it must have taken ages to get just right. biggrin Now I just need to make an outfit with it. xd

Good work!

I think it's fine. I love the way it looks. The only thing I don't like is cloak by itself is fine, hood by itself is fine and hides my hair, but cloak AND hood my hair goes through the cloak.

Perhaps you can do a Red Riding Hood EI? wink Give us her red hood?

Wow. I certainly didn't appreciate the cloak at all until you've posted this. Thanks :3 You did a fantastic job on the subtle shading and I love how the folds change.

Can't wait to see the rest (and I'm hoping for more rats) :3 heart

Wow! Thanks for this, the making of these things is fascinating. I love the drapery on this, it really is beautiful. I went out and bought one just for this pose.

Don't work yourself too hard, ok?

oh the cloak was a lovely idea! I love how much time and thought was gone into it!

Wow. And I thought the Enchanted Book cloak in its default pose was already complex. oO
So pretty, though. The texture, the fold, the drape. It looks like real silk. And the intricate gilt border. heart

>peers at certain images< It might be just my eyes, or my simple understanding of human anatomy, but the extended arm in the third and sixth images [from left to right] seems to be a bit too skewed to the left. Shouldn't the outline of the shoulder be on the same line as the outline of the hood? >>;

Ooh, and more cloaks similar to the Book's. I'm very much looking forward to it. whee

I think it looks wonderful, you can actually see that it's been made by someone with dedication to the item. The effort that went into it is obvious. You captured the silky texture really well.

Although I don't own an Enchanted Book myself yet (too poor, can you believe that?), I follow its evolution avidly. Keep up the good work smile .

The cloak is absolutely beautiful! You did a great job making it look realistic. I can't wait to see what else you do! heart

I do love the cloak. I love how much time you'reputting into the enchanted book just to make it look good. If I could change my avi without losing my pendant then I'd be wearing that cloak. But I'll lose the unintentional holy gauntlet pendant which disappeared Aug 8. I should make my mules wear the enchanted book once it's done evolving. I love those dresses too much to not use them again.

So, is one of them going to be the cash shop item: Cloak shaped and shaded exactly like your EI but colored differently? (What? They'd look better than the Magical Girl's posse.)

But it does look good I remember the first cloak on Gaia was a blanket that deletes your arms so that much work doesn't have to go into it. I think I still have it. Hold on, I'll change.

I think you did an excellent job on the cloak. It is my favorite pose of the enchanted book thus far!

Wow...thanks for posting that! I love the cloak, it made me in to a water cooler...XP
Nice work on it, Buki! <3<3

Oh Buki, I thought the cloak was lovely from the very beginning (it truly is). I even went to Site Feedback and growled at someone who was whining it was badly pixeled (and, you'll be happy to know, about 5 other users came and said they thought it was well-done as well, not badly pixeled at all...no one agreed with the first user.)
Don't listen to them. I tend to be very persnickety about pixel work and I think yours is very lovely and soft, similiar to Pepper-Tea's (although you usually work in brighter colors, which is nice ^^)
So we love you and I personally think you are doing a fabulous job with the Enchanted book, with every evolution I am more and more glad I bought two of them!

I see what you mean by a drapey cloak. I was a bit surprised at the lessened variety of this evolution, but you know, quality over quantity. Thought it was kind of random to have a separate hood-only pose. Those arms, they're killer eh? Just imagine what it must've been like for the artists who had to update all the clothes from Avatar 1.0 to 2.0 biggrin It is a nice long cloak. I haven't seen what stuff I could match it with yet, but I have high hopes. Plus I love the little gold along the edge! <3 You keep getting better buki, don't get too discouraged ^^

To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of the previous poses of the Enchanted Book. Great work but just weren't things I wanted on my avi.
This evo though is awesome though! The cloak is fabulous!
Lots of love and thanks goes to you and all the others working on the EIs. heart

I hadn't realized the complexity that went into the cloak until seeing all of the images lined up next to each other! (I don't change my arm position very much because I'm old school enough to remember when we didn't have that feature, haha)

Unfortunately this evolution of the enchanted book is all in colors that I never wear, so I don't think I'll get to wear it because I don't have anything that matches. crying

Keep up the good work with EB!

More cloaks? YAY PLEASE! I was thinking that I really LOVE this cloak, but I can't use that color...The same on black or gold would be GREAT.

Side note, when males use the cloak the back looks weird because just one hand is seen. My suggestion is to make the cloak cover it. PLEASE 3nodding

Thanks for your work, I'm enjoy this EI.

I know what you mean about some users on Gaia. You have to chalk them all up in the same category... "unhelpful".

Someone that says... "Why were they so lazy like wtf" Is no different than someone who glances at Gaia as a whole and says... "OMG, why would anyone play this over WoW?"

Thanks for the cape. As battle continues its steady approach to launch, I hope the artists are continuing to pump out outifts to help us gear up. This cape will do well.

...That gives me a brilliant idea... evolving items geared towards a certain class! Like an evolving Ranger item that gives...

...Ranger stuff?

You know what I mean. Anyways, thanks for the diligent journal updates, I love reading them Buki.

Captcha = kickoff Country. (If only we could do that to Mexico!) TOTALLY JUST KIDDING!!!! What's free speech without inappropriate comments anyways. burning_eyes

I love that cloak. I wish it was available in more colors, but it's an EI so that's probably not going to happen. XD

So pretty though. And it flows. XD

I'm sorry to hear people have made such rude comments about the Enchanted Book. I completely disagree with them. I think the cloak is beautiful. And I don't doubt for a second how hard you and the other Gaian artists work. I've said it before and I will say it again, The Enchanted Book is my FAVORITE item. I love how it's about Cinderella and how it is a lot like the Disney Cinderella I grew up watching a million times. I also love how you put your spin to the story, so it has a sense of humor with it. I'm always pleased with the new phases. In my opinion you and pepper-tea make the coolest items. You go girls! wink
