This is a great book series. I've read the first six books, with many more to go. It follows a band of cut-throats. They admit that they are not the best of people, far from it. They call them selfs scum. They just view them selfs as the lesser of several evils they encounter on their travels.
The books (at lest the first 4) are the journals of Croaker, the company medic. He is also the company historian. To tell the tales of the company as he witness them. In the first book, they are hired by Soultaker, on of the Ten who where Taken, and taken north to a war where they had no desire to fight. But as Croaker says, money talks and the men fight.
The series has so many twits and turns within it that it that it always keeps you guessing. It was first published in the 1980's, but it is a great series to look up.
