Development Bonus Update: Item Normalization Placeholder! There are a bunch of the devs here late tonight -- we've taken over the main conference room and have set up monitors and computers galore. We're going to be changing the backend of the inventory system tonight. More details and pictures later! ... at 1:00am the site is completely down for the first time in a long time ... at 3:30am things are going okay, with some scary bits in there -- fortunately some of the insurance measures we had taken proved to be useful, and we're okay... ... and at 4:40am we're back up and running and testing on our private domains. ... and at 5:56am the site is back online. We're slowly metering users in so that we can watch the load on the various databases. It is truly strange to see only 46 people on the site. ... at 6:17am there is an issue with people not seeing their inventory. It's a caching issue; we're flushing the caches right now, so bear with us a couple of minutes. ... at 7:31am there are lots of people re-equipping their Faunzy Flutes. Don't do it! We'll have the naked avatar problem fixed soon. Also, if you have an empty inventory, don't freak out -- just log out and log back in and that should fix it. ... at 8:46am things are looking pretty good, especially considering the magnitude of the changes. A rockin' effort from our dev and mod teams. Still chasing down lots of little issues... but we have cool time-lapse video of the entire thing, which we'll make available. ... and, it's 1:23pm, and I'm exhausted, and we have tons of stuff to fix over the next week or so... but item norm will be amazing in terms of what we can do with it, which DARKNRGY has talked about in his journal (and I'll mention in upcoming posts). I will upload some pictures soon, and we have a cool time-lapse video of the entire thing that we'll make available in the near future. Okay, I'm off to bed!

	i don't envy you, not even a little. i hope it all goes as planned. biggrin good luck and god speed! salutes edit - 7/08 it's still working great for me. i'm having no problems accessing stuff and unlike the complainers, i actually like the tabs (i have a LOT of stuff). the grayed out 'stuff in use' is handy too (imho). ...so where's this spiffy time lapse video you mentioned? i wanna see! xd

	So far so good. Thanks for greying out the items in equip that we had on. No problems yet, just went through the daily chance. I'll keep you posted. 9.22 AM EST: Rallys and the wheel seem to be working alright. My house works again in towns, thank you! MP is disabled so I'll have to update about that later. Sending items from towns to inventories is also working as far as I know. Don't know if gold giving is, haven't gotten any yet. 9.32: Just quit towns. Things seem to have went smoothly put it appears gold granting has been turned of in there as I was getting gold from bumping stuff. Profiles seem to be the same. MP still reporting offline. Copied this report into support thread. 9.37: Went to the all tab in inventory. Load seemed decreased time wise. Logging off Gaia to get breakfast and wait for more to come back online. Replied in support thread games are down for me as well. 9.48: Lied. Posted some more in support thread. MP back online. All tab really means all now. Starting listings. 9.53: Mp appears working. No bugs so far. Listing going up and items being bought like normal. 10.34: Posted more in the support thread trying to help people. Breaking for breakfast. 10.54: Clocking back in. 11.05: Fourms whitescreened. Refreshed, went back to normal. 11.10: Whitescreen again. This time during a post so I didn't refresh (in case a duplicate was made). 11.20: ^ While entering post reply. Returning to towns again and probably logging off a bit (even though this is fun). From now on I'll just be updating in the thread. My post is on page 3.

	It's scary to think of how long its been since Gaia has full-stopped. I think I was... 3 years younger? wow, it's been a while. 0629Arizona time (no DST), I'm seeing no issues. Everything is cruising along just fine.

	-sigh- The changes are causing so many headaches. emo Why do the equipped items have to move to the bottom of the page? After you unequip them they STAY there and we have to reorganize them. Which is not something I want to do after I make a change to my avatar. It would be as bad if the arranger didn't take even longer to load completely than before. emo The Ginger ish sad. /emo

	Wow, must of been difficult! Also Before the site went down, I managed to get a screen Cap of the orange panic bar, and when it was down, I managed to get the Problem TV Also, THANKS FOR THE UPDATE! I really needed it to find my clothes I was already was wearing XD

	yeah, I'.m one of those Gaians who like to keep their inventory arranged in a very particular way. I hate seeing it out of order. Yes, I immediately move any new items to the correct place for it rather than letting it just sit wherever it lands. I am trying to be patient. I know you guys just did a lot of work. I don't mind the ghost like image of the item we're getting when it's equipped, I just hope something can be done about the unwanted moving of the item to the back of the inventory. I really feel for those like me, who have larger inventories then I do. They must be going totally insane over this. It's a huge pain trying to rearrange them when you take them off.

	Even though everyone's complaining about having their inventory organized, I have to say that I rather like the change... That way you'll be able to see which items you're using on a regular basis, plus the items in the top section of the inventory are the ones you know you don't like as much, so... even though this seems like a somewhat odd way to organize the inventory, I really like it... (by the way, it would be hella cool if there was a way to auto-arrange the inventory: by colors, by date of item purchase, a way to turn the new thing off... Maybe give it a thought? wink ) Thanks for everything heart

	Somehow cards and Prize and Joy was broken during all this (everyone having 20 million and some-odd tokens and tickets, and P+J having the Gaia is closed and should be back up around 6am PST message when you try to access it). I hope it goes back up sooon! crying

	I hate to make any sort of negative comment, because it's not really my style, but I absolutely abhor paged inventory tabs. Granted everything loads quicker on an individual page, when I'm looking for things to equip, it takes multiple page loads to find what I want, and in general takes much longer to do anything. Even re-dressing my avatar just now, since all of my items were unequipped when I logged back in took twice as long as it should have. Hopefully this issue can be resolved.

	OMG I now have doubles of everything in my house! Sweet! Too bad it's a bug. Can we keep that one? Please 3nodding I might as well enjoy it while it lasts biggrin EDIT: Just had this happen and though maybe I should bring it up. I just had Daily Chance fail on me on the home page for the first time. It worked fine on the other tabs though. Not sure if that's related to item norm but I though I'd report it nonetheless.

	Seconding Marek's complaint, it is a bit annoying to have to go to "different pages" while re-creating an avatar. For instance, if I try on a hat, then look for an accesory that matches it, but then decide to change the hat, that page is required to load all of the images twice. The new style is quick for the newbies, but patience-testing for the elders and donators.

	I hope the horrible lag goes away sweatdrop It's really painful. Also, why are currently-equipped items still getting moved to the end of my inventory??? I organized everything really carefully so now I don't want to change my avatar. Please change this back ASAP!

	I, too find it annoying for my inventory to keep rearranging on me when I equip items. Especially since I keep a bunch of bouquets that are arranged by color, which have identical icons. But, I can always just keep fixing it, since the inventory arranger works consistently now. That's an awesome improvement.

	Even though people have already said it, I have to say that I really really hate the fact that the pages reload when I'm trying to make an avatar. I've been trying to just unequip my items for the past five minutes...and I haven't even gotten to the new Enchanted book dress yet. mad
