In my Spanish class, we're watching a telenovela (soap opera) written by the same people who wrote our textbook. It's about an extremely excitable girl named Jaimie and the connection between her and her mysterious, rich, revolutionary great-grandmother, La Catrina. I crack up every time Jaime finds out something new and mysterious about her. She opens her eyes *really* wide and says "LA CATRINA!" loudly and slowly, in this shocked tone of voice. All the other characters do the same uber-dramatic wide-eyed thing too, and this is achieved with varying degrees of seriousness.
Anyway, this is obviously La Catrina as she appears in the telenovela of the same name. She was some sort of Robin Hood type, thus the bag and belt pouches. I've always loved her big poofy hat with the feather waving around as she's galloping around on super-secret stealth missions in the middle of the night. The zorro mask, irony aside, is supposed to symbolize her mystery and all-around secrecy. Same for her gloves, only without the irony. The skirt and blouse are pretty basic, and the fox stuff, orchid, brooch, pendant, and forehead jewel are, as always, obligatory.
