Well, I've finally done it. One of my pics made the gaian top 10 in the art arena. What's really funny about it though, is that the pic is very simplistic, didn't require a ton of time or work, yet it gets awesome votes simply because it's an adorable chibi of InuYasha. This is sort of perplexing, sort of not. I realize that people like the piece a lot, whether it's because they like chibis, InuYasha, or the actual piece, thus giving it the high score. I sort of feel bad for being top ten though because there's some pretty decent artwork that doesn't get recognized.
Although, isn't artwork supposed to be about pleasing people, and not always about making the most technical piece possible? Isn't art supposed to be made for enjoyment? For the creator and the masses?
I don't know whether my piece should be in the top ten or not, but that's really not my place to decide. For a little while, it was actually in first place, but then someone made a comment which I've already stated, and gave it a 6. I do agree with this person, because usually I'm of that mind frame, where I frown upon images that get great votes for the character and cute-factor, yet not the artistic merit. I almost always conclude though, that art is done for enjoyment, and no matter how technical a piece is, no one cares if it's not likable.
Just weird random thoughts that I've been pondering since I've posted that pic on devart.
