It's official.
I've been talking about building my own computer for years. There was never quite enough money, or we already had one or two decent computers, but I knew that one day I would need a good computer and have the money to put it together myself. As I mentioned in my last journal, it's finally time. I don't have that much money, so it's a budget gaming computer. But it's a nice one. I have most of the parts picked out, but not all of them in a final sort of way. For example, I've found the case I want, but it's a bit expensive. If I can get it cheaper, I will, but if I can't, I might have to pick a different case. I do have a few cheaper options in mind. The one I want is black aluminium with four places for fans and a side window. The keyboard and mouse have been set for a while, but I might buy them with money outside my computer budget. But even when I began looking for parts, even when I started putting things in lists, I couldn't quite believe that it was finally happening. On Saturday, I ordered the CPU. Now it's official. I'm not quite sure just what motherboard to get. I'm pretty set on a certain Nvidia graphics card, and I've more or less chosen a hard drive, dvd burner, and floppy drive, and I know I'm adding a card reader and a dial-up modem. I want something not too expensive, but with some room to upgrade. I eventually want to get another optical drive, and I'll need another hard drive, and I'm going to start out with 2GB of RAM, but I'd like to be able to upgrade to at least 4GB. I want to use all the parts for as long as possible, including the motherboard. I also bought a wallet . . . or three. And two necklaces. I saw Tinymeat on Etsy mentioned on a Threadless blog, and since I need a wallet I checked it out. I was pretty set on a certain one, but there wasn't a change purse. I've been using a sort of change purse with an ID pocket as a wallet. It's one of ten million Family Guy things my brother got from the Target dollar section. It's not bad, and if it had Brian I might not be so eager to replace it, but I do need my own wallet that fits in this purse. Funny, I didn't even used to carry a purse regularly. I had a nice little wallet that fit well in my back pocket. Even had a little zippered pocket for change. When I wore my nice gothic outfits, I carried it in a coffin-shaped purse. And that's how I lost it. I lost the purse and everything in it. I didn't start carrying a purse until I got my Gameboy Advance SP. I got a carrying case for it, and I used it as a purse. Then I got a PSP, and put that in the case. Then I got a purse that says "I <3 Yaoi". My PSP fits nicely in the zippered back pocket, and a pen, a small notepad, and the sunglasses that attach to my glasses all fit in the open front pocket. Inside, there's room for a book. That's why I bought it. However, to fit a book inside, I have to use a thin wallet. The wallet I used with my Gameboy case is a largish purse wallet. Where was I going with this? Oh, yeah, so I was browsing Tinymeat again since I now have money for a wallet, and I found one so good that I don't mind that it doesn't have a change pocket. I thought I'd better check out the rest of Etsy anyway and see what other wallets are available. Many of them were too girly, too big, or both, but one shop has these little cigarette/ID cases with room for cards, cash, and coins. I bookmarked about seven of them and slowly narrowed it down to two. In the end, I bought two of them, two necklaces from the same shop, and the Tinymeat wallet. Now I'll have lots of room for coins, cards, coupons, candy, and whatever random crap I can fit in there. If I can survive without my pen and notepad, I could even just shove the Tinymeat wallet in my pocket and forget the purse sometimes. Ooh, what's left? QI series 2. Jeeves and Wooster can wait . . . again. A couple of Theadless shirts. I wish the samurai torso armour layered over the fishnet shirt. I normally don't let myself buy more than four MCs, but I kind of want two or three more of the Samurai Yoroi. Well, two. Hmm. I've got until the end of the month to decide. On Tuesday, I'm wearing the Cheshire cat. I'm almost not sure I want to quest for a Coco anymore. Can't put the Chesire cat on my back, though. Ah, assuming I ever have enough for a Coco. When I started this quest, they were around 200,000, give or take 10,000. Give, probably. Now, they're 300,000. Maybe they'll be back down by the time I've saved up enough. I think it's going pretty well, considering I'm not online every day, and I do little more than lurk, play puzzles, and bump on my mules. Before long, I'll be able to say, "If I had had this much gold a few months ago, I could have gotten a Coco."
