Beep beep, went my annoying alarm clock. I opened my eyes and sat up. The first thing I saw was the thing gleaming on my wrist. I groaned when I saw that it was that stupid bracelet my mom took away yesterday. I was about to take it off and throw it in the trash, but I decided not to. I don't know what came over me, but I felt that I should wear this to school. When I got out of bed, I stepped on something. I looked down and rolled my eyes. There was a gift box. The one I was supposed to give to Jake six years ago. I took it and shoved it in my backpack for no apparent reason. I shrugged and went downstairs. My mom was gone. Huh, she probably went to work early. I looked at the clock. A lot early. I hurried to ready for school because I had only five minutes until school started. As I was running like a maniac on the sidewalk, I saw someone up ahead. I stopped dead in my tracks. Jake. I think he heard someone behind him, so he turned around. When he saw it was me, he had that stupid goofy smile on him again. "Hey there. Look, I'm real sorry about what happened at school last week. But you don't deserve Nick. He was cruel and heartless," explained Jake, walking closer to me.
When he mentioned Nick, I've already had tears in my eyes. I couldn't take it. Nick Duso. The name was too much to me. Jake probably saw me tearing up, so he went by me and comforted me. I hugged him and cried on his shoulder. Jake looked shocked. I pushed him away and walked to school like nothing even happened. Jake ran up to me and asked, "Hey, what was that all about? Are you sure you're ok?"
I looked at him with dreary eyes. I showed him my wrist. His eyes bugged out at the sight of it. "It can't be. Is that what I think it is?" he said, in wonder.
I nodded. "Yup, the charm bracelet you gave to me 6 years ago," I said, looking away.
When I looked back at him, he had a sly smile on his face. I felt my face burn up as he moved closer to me. He was about to kiss me, when someone barged right through us. That someone turned out to be Anna, who smirked at us. "Whoops, sorry if I interrupted your conversation. I can so be careless sometimes," she bubbled, flicking her hair.
How I wanted to push her on the road. But I held back. Anger issues. Must take control of them. Jake came to my side and said, "Aww, it's ok, Anna. I hope Nick breaks up with you. I saw him making out with this hot chick by the park yesterday. He'll probably break up with today. Sorry,"
Anna's eyes looked as if they were going to pop out. Without a word, she began to run like a maniac toward school. When she left, I laughed until I thought I busted a gut. There were tears in my eyes when I stopped laughing. Jake shrugged and started walking. I ran up to him and asked, "Hey, what's wrong? Why aren't you laughing? That was really funny."
"Nah, besides, you're mad at me aren't you? I left you six years ago. I deserved it," said Jake, looking away.
"Oh. That. Umm, it's ok. I forgive you. Oh yeah, I forgot to give you this," I said, fumbling through my backpack.
I got out the present and gave it to him. He took the gift and began unwrapping it. He stared in shock when he finally got to the center of the box. He looked up, with a smile. “Is this what I think it is?”
:"Yup, the birthday gift I was trying to give to you when you left," I said, icily.
Jake looked guilty for a moment, and said, "Look, I'm really sorry Sky. I didn't leave you on purpose. It's just that... well, my parents were having a fight back then. Without even thinking, my mom divorced my dad. He wanted to take me to Florida, to take me away from my mom. After a few years there, I felt like a stranger there. You know why? Because I didn't have you there. I didn't want to live there anymore. I felt like running away and getting a plane ticket and going back to school to you. But I realized that I didn't have enough money. So, I called my mom. She decided to take me back when my dad wasn't paying attention. I bet he's freaking out right now,"
I gawked at Jake for a long time. I felt touched yet confused at the same time. My face burned once more when he walked even closer to me. I stood frozen when he bent down to my face. "I hope you'll really forgive after my gift to you," he whispered, pulling me in close to him. Right there, he kissed me, on my lips. I was frozen like a ice cube yet inside I thought I was in a burning oven. When we were done, I just smiled weakly, and hugged him. It was like everything was finally back in order.
