"Bluntly put, you are an angel."
Barra slipped his hands casually into his pockets as if he were discussing nothing but the weather with me, dodging the blind punch I threw towards his emotionless face.
"Mind you, this is not scientific data speaking but pure logical thinking and hypothesis. We believed you were a seraph. You probably remember when we tested you now; Everything from your intelligence to social abilities was recorded, graphed, saved for later reference. One particular test pushed you past your limits, the endurance test, if I recall correctly. Almost destroyed the entire factory when your second and third sets of wings broke out after the third electric charge we set through you. This excessive amount of wings trait is only applicable to the seraphim kind. In another matter, that's also when you screamed out your first word, through numbing pain and childish tears: "Soul". So we named you that after Mara changed the spelling a bit, even though we knew your true identity not long after. Did you know Seoul... did you know another angel fell at the same time you did? One named Salagia; The embodiment of all the seven deadly sins in one being. Salagia told us-"
Kyahnmar cut off Barra with one hand, wanting an opportunity to speak.
"You fought him and ended up in tie of sorts, falling from Heaven in a critical state. We assume you somehow managed to reincarnate yourself within your own body as an infant in a safe place, most likely in the church where we found you cradled in the stone arms of the angel statue. The fight... Salagia and you had a disagreement concerning the state of the world and it's sins. The amount of "sin" Salagia had released into the world displeased you, while Salagia thought it necessary to cleanse the world of it's impurities. The sin... it was the Illusions of Paradise disease. The black color of your wings are due to the fact... your previous self absorbed as much of the sin as he could before the rebirthing process, channeling it into his wings."
"My family... they weren't real? What about my brother and sister? Gigane and Mara? What about Krao's wings?" I asked, voice trembling in pure disbelief. Krao stood as still as a classic Renaissance statue a few feet behind me, mouth open farther than any time I'd ever seen before.
"For awhile Mara had us place you in a foster family, but... you know the outcome. The Roulette found you within weeks. We allowed you to think that they were your only family in order to keep Mara and Gigane's identities safe from mention. After that, you crashed into our warehouse only by pure luck only days after we had moved here in secret. The second time you saw them as a child was right after that... incident, for they wanted to say good bye one last time in case our Spades plan failed but they ended up disappearing under mysterious circumstances. Kyahnmar and I placed you into the Spades with high hopes in faith that it would hone your survival abilities and combat skills while we searched for Mara and Gigane. They're missing from all the databank files and labeled as location unknown, but we're still looking. As for your previous question, Krao and all the other guild members are genetically engineered angels... or rather they engineered themselves from nothing but Salagia's feathers and the strange liquid he gave us. The wing colors are nothing but a genetic feature and serve no purpose other than identification."
Barra cut in aggressively, shoving Kyahnmar aside as he strode forward to emphasize his point. My eyes were hollow windows as I watched his lips move to words that rung foreign in my ears.
"Salagia is trying to bring around the Apocalypse, the real Apocalypse with his disease and artificial warriors. He's started with this city..."
"And it's going to end with this city." Black wings spread wide as I finally came to gaze at the two scientists, only a minute shake rattling through my legs as the other two sets came out hesistantly due to ill use. "What is my name? What is my true name?"
"Sariel. We researched the name. You were not a seraph..." Barra paused, his tongue seemingly tied in knots as I looked at him with different eyes. My old eyes.
"You were an archangel; Sariel was one of the seven archangels. The archangel in charge of the spirits of men who have sinned. Salagia's master and equal at the same time."
Something slipped out from inside, deep inside the depth's of my body. flooding through my veins, my limbs. Fluid yet foreign words slipped from between my lips that were my own words from another time. Krao crumpled over onto the cold floor in a shock induced faint.
"He disobeyed. The traitor must pay for what he has done to our world, to it's people. Redemption is in store for those who have suffered due to his sadistic ideals for a pure world. I, Sariel, the angel reborn take up this cause and will stay on this earth until my words are carried out as actions. So help us God."
Was this me? It was once me, I knew that, but was it me now? Confusion rung clear as my own personality came rolling back into place, meshing into my old, resurfaced entity of old. My hair had grown into long silky strands of black hair so perfect the world around it seemed only to exist to compliment it while my skin, still pale had a godly luster to it. I sighed, inspecting this new apperance as it came to be as the others seemed to be blinded by some ephemeral heavenly light. It faded and the warehouse's bleak interior once again became the dull gray of concrete. My hands reached out to touch the locks of pure black hair that seeped over my shoulders and cringed at the absolute quality of it as well as the length. It was resting on the curve of my back, which I found to be an ungodly weight on my shoulders and head having had short hair for my entire second life.
"I look like I'm from the pages of a cheesy vampire novel. Long hair, black suit, plastic skin." I flinched in displeasure at the smoothness of my hand against the other.
Krao's lips curled into a grin as he picked himself up awkwardly, never once doubting his old friend was still inside my new body as he strode forward.
"Shall we go to war, your archangel-ness?"
[PS: this still needs editing. xD LOTS OF EDITING. If you loyal fans would like to point out plot holes, please do. I've confused even myself at this point.]
