Last night I saw Sweeney Todd with Sarah (ultra sarah)
it was the last showing of the night, starting at 10:20, and ending some time the next day.
It was magical; the people there were all either goth, or geeks (this is a very geeky area) and after a preview for some hard core fantasy movie there were squeals of excitement. I never wanted to go home. XD
Anyway, the movie was pretty nice, and I loved the plot.
"such a nice plump frame
whats his name has-
had-
has, nor it can be traced...
business needs a lift
debts to be erased
think of it as thrift
as a gift
if you get my drift...
seems an awful waste
with the price of meat what it is
when you get it
if you get it....
good you got it.
take for instance mrs.Mooney and her pie shop
business never better using only pussycats and toast
now a p***y's good for six or seven at the most
and I'm sure it can't compare as far as taste"
XDD
Also, it's Tim Burton, so the aesthetics of the sets and costumes and everything is lovely and dark. My only complaint is that the blood was orange. D:
I mean, the timing and everything was perfect as far as gore- just off enough to get you relaxed and unexpecting when it happens so you can't really cover your eyes or prepare yourself for it. I guess they figured they had to set off the color just a bit or else it would be too gory (they aren't afraid to show -cough- a few throats being cut. ) but- but- but-
But it was ORANGE. The blood looked like red-orange paint, instead of shiny dark red blood that would make the aesthetics dark and gorgeous. Besides that my only complaint is they didn't develop some of the characters enough, like Joanna and Antony. Especially Joanna. I wish they'd have taken a little bit of time out of the fluff at the beginning that drawled on about how CRAZY todd is to develop her character, because she says some deep things later on, but you can't take her seriously because you don't really know what happened to her, so she just sounds like an annoying whiny emo child. D:
Now that I'm done tearing it apart, though, over all I think it was a great movie. Anyone who enjoys gore with plot or dark aesthetics who doesn't mind a lot of blood should see this movie in my opinion. Tim Burton has redeemed himself in my eyes from the Corpse Bride. I think he learned his lesson. :3
Sweeney Todd is rated R, and surprisingly (or not) it's only rated R for violence. It depends on who you are and what you're into, but there's no real blunt sexual content. HOWEVER there is a LOT of blood, and I mean a lot. I would go so far as to say that it's gorier than most horror films. Yes, they kill people. Yes, blood goes everywhere, and somehow he always gets the bloodstain out of his white clothes. and the floor. and the smock. and the chair, before the next customer comes in. Go figure. Just be warned that if you're faint of heart, or just don't particularly like seeing peoples necks being sliced and blood being spurted out like a water balloon being popped- and people being tossed loosely onto the ground below and broken into a billion little pieces and eaten and- oh, *ehem* -gathers composure again-
if you're not into gore, don't see this movie, but otherwise, it's amazing, and the music and stuff is good, lines perfectly delivered, and overall- it's magical.
