Another Game Rant! (Shining Tears) |

Yes, indeed, it's another game rant. The reason I havent been ranting as often, is I havent found a game so mundane. So pointless. So junky that could revive my muse. Well, Shining Tears did it.
Shining Tears. PS2 I would rather projectile vomit shards of glass than have this "Game" befoul the KB of my Memory Card ever again. I am always ranting about games that use anime graphics to pull people in to buy them. This one is PROOF that just cause it looks like an anime you watch, doesnt mean it's good. First off, the graphics. The graphics are good, if it was an early Nintendo 64 game. The movements are choppy, and the sprites are pixelated like they were from a 32 bit game trying to take a 3D approach and failing miserably. Think Ogre Battle, but add 2 heaping spoonfuls of FAIL. Ive seen better 3D graphics on my Super Nintendo. I dont even know how this game can exist without bursting into a black hole of lameness and drawing the universe in.
Next, onto storyline. All I can say is "Sub-Sub-Sub Par" it's a generic anime storyline with generic anime characters with a mysterious boy who washes up on the shore of some island with no memory of anything, with 2 mysterious rings. Within 5 minutes of game time, it already turns out that these rings are the "Zomgwtfpwnsorjoorazz" rings of power that grant this kid unbelievable strength. A Side effect though, is it makes him more mature, smarter, stronger, and endows him with a "Im dangerous" attitude. (A la Yugioh) Oh, did I mention it makes his hair spiky, gives him eye shadow, and gives him different clothes? All I can ask is Why hasnt the makers of Yugioh sued them yet? Oh! I know! The game is so bad that it flew under the radar of normal people and companies.
Everything in the game was pointless. You've got an elf girl with wings on her head, a librarian who works in a church, and a boy who cant remember his name, but can turn super Sayan by putting on a ring. The game itself is set up perfectly for Voice Acting during the scenes, but there's none. Not a single word is uttered through the entire game. All you get is the sound of Super Sayan Generic Kid's sword slashing through Weak generic Monster's hide, and the horrible repetitive Generic Anime RPG Music. C'mon, even Dragon Warrior 1 for NES had better, more interesting music than this thing. It's like someone sat there on a piano and played the first 3 notes over and over again.
The reason I rented this game, was for the horrible lie that was printed on the back in big bold letters. "2 Player Cooperative!" In a world where there arent many 2 player cooperative games, I had hoped that this would be one of the few games that caught my interest. Needless to say, I played for an entire hour and there wasnt a single sight of 2 player cooperative anywhere. After every mission, you're returned to the Inn, where you take another quest, magically warp to where you need to go, do that, then are returned the exact same place. There's never a need to leave the tavern and explore, because there is nothing TO explore. The quest maps are tiny, and the enemy AI is pathetic. They dont move, attack, or probably even breath till you hit them with your sword. Your sword, whose hitbox is so out of whack, you may as well swing an overly sharpened pencil at them in hopes they get lead poisoning from pencil dust.
This is definitely the worst game I have ever played. At least Siren had graphics, and Wild Arms 4 had Voice Acting. Im not sure how something so pathetic, and so horribly designed could ever be made. Either the creators were Blindfolded and held at gunpoint to make this game by terrorists, or this is the japanese taking revenge on the west by giving us such a horrible, horrible game. A Weapon of Mass, Pathetic Waste of Time.
