Everyone always asks "If you could go back in time and stop Hitler, would you?"
Think about it. Killing him before he came into power? You're no better than a murderer yourself, as he's still an innocent man.
That and what if you changed time to something worse?
And so many other things.
But one thing I thought of....
If you were God, and you knew of these things to come...maybe you sent down murderers to eliminate certain people that will do bad things...maybe these criminally insane that hear the voices are touched by God.
Noone would ever believe you were a divine agent. Noone would ever believe that murdering so many people was a GOOD thing. You'd be tried and convicted and most probably put to death.
So would you still go back in time to stop someone, when knowing full well you'll become the hated murderer in history in their stead? Knowing yourself to be a hero, but to be forever loathed by the people you wanted to save, to have your psyche and your childhood picked apart by highschool students in the criminal justice books and abnorminal psych classes.
Tough decisions.

I guess there's two main groups when it comes to going back and changing the past; one being that as the past has already happened, it cannot be changed. So going back in time with the intent of killing someone would not work, as something would prevent you from carrying out your goal.
The second group deals with paralell universes, with all of the infinite possibilities of things that could have ever happened existing like different pages in different books in a giant library of the multiverse. So in some alternate universe, there's a world where Hitler didn't rise to power... and one where he succeeded.
Anyways, if God himself came down on a floating cloud and told me that he wanted me to go back in time to save the future, at the personal cost of being reviled throughout the history of the future, then my next stop would be the psychiatric ward.
