Chapter 6

Hours later, Elizabeth reawoke. While she was unconscious Jack and I had scrounged up a meal. I had caught fish, and Jack picked fruit. We both found firewood. By the time elizabeth woke, we had a pretty good meal cooking. The fish were cooked to steaming perfection, some fruit was fresh, some was steamed in various sweet island spices, and i had found some coconuts filled to the brim with milk and coconut meat. We ate our fill. Elizabeth was actually less ladylike than I had thought; instead of nibbling her fish and fruit she gobbled it dow, duice dribbling down her chin. Upon noticing that, she swiped it away with her skirt. After finishing the meal, we siged and leaned agaisnt some rocks I had set up as chairs. I was about ready for a snooze and had just closed my eyes when I heard the sond of either Jack or Elizabeth shifting position.
"Um, Captain?" It was Elizabeth.
"Yes?" Jack and I replied in unison. I opened one eye.
"Not you, Jack. I rarely ever call you 'captain'. I was talking to the woman."
"Oh." Jack sat back against his rock again.
"Well Liz," I said, "what's your question?"
"Uh, well...it's not a question, ma'am--"
"Don't call me ma'am. I'm not married, ya know. Who'd marry a vamp?"
"Vamp?"
"Vampyr, luv."
"Oh, well, I just wanted to say thank you for not leaving me by the water. I still cana't believe I fainted."
"Eh, no problem, poppet. We girls stick together. And the reason you fainted was too much exitement in one afternoon. It happens to the noblewomen sometimes."
"By the way," This was Jack, "You never told us your name, luv."
"Huh?" Both my eyes popped open and I sat up. "Why Jack, I can't believe you don't recognize me!"
He seemed to check his memeory. "Nope, sorry."
"Well *sigh*, it has been about 17 years since we last saw each other."
"Really? But I was twelve 17 years ago."
"Yes, and I was 18. Maybe this'll give you a clue as ta who I am: My name's Jaqueline Sparrow."
"Sparrow?" Elizabeth had rejoined the conversation. "I guess that explains why you got so worried about Jack earlier."
"Uh huh." I looked at Jack. His mouth was hanging open. He gaped at me for the second time that day. "Jackie boy, close your damn mouth. This's the second time I've had ta tell yo it's impolite ta stare." His jaw closed with a snap.
"S'ry," he muttered, "I just--I didn't know I had any seafarin' family 'side from Mum and Dad. You remind me of my mum."
"Well there's a reason for that. I honestly thought my name would jog your mem'ry. Jack, I'm your sister."
