Finding the Journal
April 3rd, 2007 Forest near Dublin Day
Since the beginning of time two worlds have lived side by side in harmony. One where the human beings live and the other were those of the elements dwell. We humans know all about our world… but we know not of the elements. To us the elements are a material or an emotion or feeling. But this is not true… for when we see a flame of a fire we believe its simply a way of burning things, we believe water is simply a source for hydrating our bodies, that earth is just dirt and plants, and air is something we cant see but we know its there. But we could never believe that people cause the elements… could we?
I do. I believe there is a world that we cannot see. Perhaps if we actually truly believed such a thing we could. But recently on my quest for knowledge I stumbled upon a cave were it seemed as if… at one time, some one lived there. There were rooms and a kitchen, a library and even a bathing room. The place looked long deserted as if it hadn’t been touched in a long time. In a room that seemed to be a study I found a worn leather book sitting open on a large slap of smooth stone. The words had been written by hand and in an elegant script. Every now and then it had dates, times and seasons. It seemed to be a journal… but of what and whom? What person would live in a cave like this? Someone who didn’t wish to be seen by the world? Perhaps some criminal? All these assumptions were incorrect.
Eventually I decided to go back to the inn were I was staying, and only taking the little journal with me. I promised that I would return to the cave soon and stay in this region till I unlocked all its secrets. Who knew I would unlock such a marvelous thing as the Realm of Caledonia... inside that small little journal?
About The Journal’s Author
April 3rd, 2007 Four Leaf Clover Inn, Dublin Evening
I sit myself by the common room’s fireplace and pull out my logbook and the little journal I found this morning. I examine it with great care and extreme interest. On the front there is stitching that makes a symbol of a tiger’s head with two broadswords behind it.... it is marvelous work. There are words in a tongue foreign to this world running in a circle around the tiger and swords.
There seems to be a name stitched in at the bottom but it is worn and nothing is visible except an ‘S’ and a ‘D’... perhaps they are the initials to my mysterious author. I carefully open the journal and leaf through it. It seems to have all of the pages and the writing is slightly faded but still legible, the book is full of writing. I return to the first page of it and read over the writing.
The first page looks like a title page in modern books... it has the title, simply ‘Journal’, a date which I do not recognize, 1100 R.C. And a name. I stare at it a long time trying to pronounce the name correctly... it is an odd name to me for no one here is called such. The words seem to have been written finer than the other words in the whole book.... ‘Setka Dubara’ is written in vermilion ink. Those two words hold extreme beauty and great meaning to me... there was the author of this journal... and the keeper of the cave/house that I had found this morning.
I flip to the next page and study the writing, which is delicately written,
Maro 15th 1100 R.C. My 7th birthday
Hello Brand New Book... or Dear Journal, Today is my 7th birthday and you are one of my birthday gifts. My mother gave you to me. She gave my twin brother, Ishka, one too. She explained that at our age we should begin recording our days since we are now taking up our roles as Prince and Princess of The Realm of Elements Caledonia. Now that I have told you how I came to own you Dear Journal, let me tell you a bit about myself. My name is Setka Dubara, I am age 7 and was born on Maro 15th 1093. I was born into the royal family with my twin brother, Ishka Dubara. My mother is the beautiful Queen Pyra of The Natura Clan and my father is the courageous King Orrin of the Grandis Tigris Clan. I have a bit of my father and mother in me. More my mothers personality than anything else. I resemble my father greatly in appearance. I have chin length vermilion locks and emerald green feline eyes. I have a mouth full of feline teeth as well as a pair of orange tiger ears and a tail to match. Now that you know a bit about me let me introduce you to the land of Caledonia. Caledonia is a dimension that resides next to the humans’ world. Caledonia has three separate Realms. The Elemental Realm, The Realm of the Belua or Great Beasts, and the Realm of Shadows. In the very center is the Palace Iubar-Aris, Palace of the Sun. That is were my family and I reside. We each have a room that fits our personalities.
Well I would love to write more but mother is telling me to go to sleep. I shall write to you tomorrow night and tell you all about what has happened and a bit more about my world and life.
Farewell Dear Journal Setka
I sit back in my chair floored by the first three pages that I have read. Now I have more questions than I had before I began reading this. So the person who had lived in that cave was a child? No that wasn’t possible... the journal said she lived in Caledonia. But then how did the Journal end up here?
I rub my face and close the book and stand from my seat. I must retire to my room for I am exhausted from the day’s discoveries. But I go to bed with a whirling mind... with the image of the young girl in my mind.
