Here we go...again...I have to fix my writing style, so hopefully I've progressed over the past few years...
Eltea looked around. She was surrounded by the darkness of night, though she was positive there was a forest of pine behind her. She looked ahead and saw the lights of a distant village. The chilling night seemed to feel less cold and merciless. She stepped forward. Her foot landed right in the dirt and it sank in comfortably like it had always belonged there. She sighed with disappointment, but trudged along. The houses in the distance seemed to be growing closer. With each step she was closer to eating, sleeping, and hydrating herself. It had been a while since she had the luxury of actual food. Her toes were chilly as the stepped lithely across the top-frozen mud, each step made a crunch as it broke the ice and then sank into the cold mud. She shivered with each step, but she kept going for there was something she was looking for....something she had lost long ago... The village was now in her reach. She made it to the first set of houses, but fatigue conquered her and she fell helplessly onto the dirt. Voices of gentle women and concerned young men rang through her ears, but she saw nothing.
"You there?" A voice asked politely. It was too strong to be a woman, but sounded fresh so he couldn't have been over twenty-nine. "Venn...I don't think she's well just yet..." Another voice sounded, "Then leave her..." This one was much darker, but was less mature than the other voice...this one had to have been the 'Venn' the first voice was talking about. At least that was what Eltea had deduced. There was a minute's pause and then Venn spoke again, "Sain...we should leave..."
The first voice responded to Venn's comment, "You're right, we have to do our share of the work...C'mon, I don't think she could hurt herself on anything here..." That voice had to have been 'Sain'.
There were footsteps and then the slamming of a door...the two voices continued to converse outside the door, but they faded almost immediately. Eltea used her hearing to examine the room, there was no breathing other than her own, no footsteps, no panting...she knew she was alone now and with that in mind, she got up slowly. Her body struggled to sit upright, but with much determination and fight, she sat back up and opened her eyes.
The house she was in was simple and had a distinct dome shape roof. Its walls were adequtely high at approximately seven feet and the roof itself was even higher. The furnishings were nothing special either, just cheap wooden furniture with a couple of boxes and barrels in the corner.
The barrels had an interesting smell exuding from them, but being a well minded young lady, Eltea just left them where they were. Gently, she put one of her feet down on the floor and moved away from the bed she had 'borrowed'. There was only one other bed in the house, so she knew she had put one of those two men out of a bed for a night.
With another step she noticed that she was wearing a silky nightdress...The only thought that came by her was why would men be needing a nightdress? Maybe there were other visitors that journeyed from distant towns to see them? Regardless of the reason, she was grateful. All she had to begin with was a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. None of which were able to adequately shield her from the frigid air of the area.
She walked about the house curiously looking at various details, when the girl passed the table. Books were scattered across them in an unorganized manner. Taking a seat, Eltea assessed the information presented to her in the disheveled array and she began her work placing each of the pages in a seemingly random order. Once her 'work' was done, she looked at the pages with a humble smie across her face. She looked at one of the book's cover...
"Alchemy..." Her voice was sweet and soft and clear like dew on the blades of grass on a beautiful sunday morning...
The door swung open at that moment and she dropped the book out of shock. There were two men that walked in. Both were handsom and tall and strong, although one was significantly shorter than the other.
One had red hair and blue eyes with strange clothes on. He was the one that jumped when he had discovered his Alchemic papers had been messed with, "Oh God...what happened?" He was panicking over his work and it scared Eltea...
She kept silent, but then opened her mouth, "I-I was organizing y-your works..."
Her voice was melodious as ever, even when she was in fear. This was the older voice she heard in the morning, this one was Sain...
Sain looked once again at his works and frantically spilled words from his mouth, "I've been trying to figure this out for years and now everything's been thrown out of balance..."
His words died down to a smaller tone, "...Wait...These...these are...right....?"
He seemed shocked. Sain backed away to look at the new array that had been laid before him. Then he looked at Eltea, his long red hair swayed behind him, "How did you do this?"
Eltea mumbled, "I-I just took the equasions on the pages...and connected them to the ones that c-correspond...i-it wasn't hard..."
The other younger man stepped forward, he had blue short hair with a gold headband that kept most of it back. Despite this accessory, he still had a fringe. Behind all the hair were the two most brilliant blue eyes ever seen. This was Venn...the younger one, "Each page had over one hundred equasions on it...each of which connects to a different page. How did you do it all? If that was the case, that means you had to have had some previous knowledge in this kind of Alchemic mathematics..." His tone was frightening...
Eltea shrugged, took a step back, and looked at the two men, "Venn...Sain" She hesitated a moment, "Brothers, don't you remember me?"
The two men took themselves back for a moment...what in hell was going on?
