The condo my grandparents got
Sits comfortably on a patch of jade turf
Sandwiched between another two condos
Blue siding soaking up the sun.
"I'm here," I whisper softly as I step in.
The scent of the flowing, salty ocean lingers in the air
Seeping into the walls and
Mixing with memories, long ago passed.
Forgotten grains of sand scratch against toes
Waiting to be noticed as
I carry my travel-worn bag up the carpeted stairs
Into the room I always stay in
And everything is the same as when
My dad would tuck me in and open a book
The cadence of his words lulling me to sleep.
The atmosphere says
Home.
