Never-ending Dream
The lights of the theater slowly dimmed,
Like the sun setting in the infinite West.
The voices were hushed by the boundless space
Of the overhead roof’s request.
I cuddled up in the maroon, velvety chair
That felt like newly washed bed sheets.
Then, in the theater’s dark, it dawned on me—
I wanted to drown in these soothing seats
For sitting across me was a blinding radiance.
She shone like a crescent moon on a cloudless night.
Her long, dark hair—waves tossing in an endless ocean—
Made my heart race, my mind think thoughts of delight.
The movie was naught but a bug,
Unceasingly encircling my head.
It wouldn’t stop disrupting me;
I wanted it killed, I wanted it dead.
That way, my thoughts would belong to her.
I watched her brown eyes sparkle and shine.
I watched her arousing smile and laugh.
I watched till I knew she had to be mine.
But she didn’t belong to me, not yet.
My heart skipped a beat out of dread.
Is she taken? Does she know I exist?
Would she love me or another instead?
I had to steal her soul, possess her.
A drop of salty sweat dripped
From my forehead onto my lips.
My thoughts raced and abruptly slipped.
They were blinded by the theater lights.
She slowly treaded down the maroon aisle.
I bounded down the row to catch up to her.
This embarrassment had to be worthwhile.
After dashing across what seemed 3 miles,
I placed my left hand on her left shoulder.
She whipped around to greet the stranger.
My heart suddenly became much older.
I understood. I not only knew, but felt.
I felt love, such a pure and bitter drink.
It filled me only to make me crave more.
My torn life dangled on the brink.
There were the theater doors, just a yard away.
I knew eventually I had to walk out of here.
Would it be with her by my side, our arms linked?
Or would I go solo, holding back a tear?
She smelled of spring on a mountain,
Her lavender dress flowed
Like the waters of a creek.
Her creamy skin made me explode.
I slowly leaned forward and whispered in her ear,
“My dear, may your beauty always remain sincere.”

- Title: Never-Ending Dream
- Artist: YumeriaFreak
- Description: These poem, like my Shakespearean sonnet, spawns from Freshman year Lit. class when we did a unit on poetry and we all had to submit various, original poems. This is the narrative poem I had partly based on a dream, partly based on pure fantasy. I hope you enjoy this poem as it is far easier to read than my sonnet (but less elegant in my opinion).
