I am the doormat, raped by your anger,
fearful of your heavy steps. Wearing thin,
and soiled from years of displaced emotions.
I am a welcome mat, for your inner
thoughts and deepest despair. Always finding
a way to smiling faces and relieved fear.
Beyond my reach is the door frame, the
gateway to loving warmth. Only getting a
glimpse as another grabs the door handle,
and steps inside.
