Once in September there was a vendor
A vendor of pots and pans
He strutted through town with a pot on his crown
A golden crown had he
Yelling his wares and avoiding the stares
But no people came to buy
They avoided this seller for he was a known killer
A killer of rats and fleas
Everywhere he chose to tromp vermin life would surely romp
All in a line behind the man
Discovering his plight the man chose to spite
The village dames and men
He skipped through town in jester guise a layer of color as his disguise
The pests ran amuck
He said that he could make the vermin cease if only they release
A handsome sum of gold
They begged him to stay rid the plague if on his flute he play
The vendor’s named price
To the river he drove his rat and flea parade alone with a flute and no other aid
The filth did drown
Back to the village he made his way but with stubborn grins they refused to pay
The vendor plotted revenge
Within a night a new hoard of vermin were within his sight
To the village he made his way
The rats and fleas could hear no pleas
They carried the children away
To the mountain he made his way the pests and children never going astray
Never to be seen again
When the day awoke the parents choke
On sobs for lost young
High in the mountains a man smiles as he recalls his guiles
The village’s dismay
Forever onward stories will play and after the stories people will say
The Pied Piper’s tale is told

- Wow, that was a bit extreme for a story about rats, but it was cool, I liked it!
