Chapter 2: Boy Meets Girl
“I’m going to Keith’s house for rehearsal,” shouted Brad as he closed the door behind him. He went to the door of his truck, unlocked it, and then pulled the handle. Damn. He thought as the door stayed firmly closed. He leaned all of his weight near the hinges, and then reached for the handle. As he pulled the handle, the door opened and he lost his balance, causing him to land flat on his face. He quickly got up, dusted himself off, and got into the truck.
As he drove, he noticed a girl walking next to the road. He felt like she was a complete stranger, yet he felt like he had seen her before. He pulled over, rolling down the window on the passenger’s side.
“Need a ride?” he politely asked her. Her black, wavy hair moved as she turned to look towards him.
“Yea, but I don’t know exactly where I’m going.”
“You’re lost?” he didn’t understand how anyone could get lost in Wyoming, unless she’s in Wyoming because she’s lost. Then again, the chances of her getting this close to the center of the state from another state, especially without asking for help before getting to this point, were very slim.
“Yea, let’s go with that.”
“Hop in,” he invited before she went for the door and sat in the passenger’s seat. “What exactly are you looking for?”
She thought for a second. “A destiny,” she replied after putting a lot of thought into it.
“Aren’t we all. I’m Brad, by the way. Where are you from, anyways?”
“I’m Miranda. Honestly, if I told you where I was from, you wouldn’t believe me.”
Brad found it really strange that she had been giving him very vague answers, and then told him that he ‘wouldn’t believe’ where she was from. One thing was definite in his mind though; she had a beautiful voice. “Can you sing?”
“Um… yea. Why?”
“Well, our singer just moved, and, since you’re looking for a destiny, maybe you would like to take their place. Are you good at county music?”
“Yea, but I don’t know if I can be your singer. When I said I was looking for a destiny, I meant my specific destiny. It’s really hard for me to explain, but my destiny is a little different from anyone else’s destiny. My destiny is something unimaginable. Do you know anyone who studies legends or anything like that?”
Brad stopped. Did he find a legend? There was only one person who would know, and he had to ask him. He turned the truck around and answered her question. “Yes. Yes I do. We’ll be there in about 5 minutes.”
