JADE PRINCESS OF DARKNESS
CHAPTER 1: JADE'S ORIGIN
My name is Jade. I won't talk about my original surname. It's part of the past, a life that I left behind, and long forgotten. I chose it to be that way. It's was my own decision to let it be that way. My own choice. Even so, sometimes I feel pain when I remember those days when I was a mortal. True, you can never deny your original roots but, even when you do, you'll always remember where you came from. I am Jade, a chosen Princess to rule in a world of darkness. I did not ask for such responsibility, or burden. I was chosen and I had no choice about this. This is my story, the account of my life as a creature long feared through the centuries: I am a Vampiress and a ruler among these, my people.
My story starts when I turned 18 years old. For the humans, this is time for a child to become an adult. I was excited. It was time for me to take my place among the adults and with that, assume more responsibilities and privileges. But, all that changed the night after my birthday. I couldn't sleep, so I decided to take a walk in the forest behind our farm, under the moonlight and the stars. I was not afraid. I had always done it before. Sometimes, I took my young sister with me. It was summer and that was one of the things we liked to do during this time.
Anyhow, I arrived to my 'secret spot' to watch the stars when I heard screams coming from the direction of my house. I ran as fast as I could and when I was getting closer, I was surrounded by dark figures, clad in black. I could not see who they were until one of them took his hood off. When I saw his face, I perceived that he was not a human. His perfil was perfect, young looking but had the eyes of centuries of wisdom. His presence was of dominance, wisdom, royalty, and fierceness. I looked at him in awe. Then, I heard others coming out of the house. I didn't hear any more screams. Everything was quiet.
One of the figures that came out of the house, carried the dying body of my sister. I pushed the hooded figures aside to try to reach my sister but the figures that surrounded me seized me. The leader came to me and looked into my eyes deeply. I felt his thoughts go through my mind. He was trying to persuade me to offer my life to him so he could kill me. This was the moment when I knew that he was a vampire. Vampires can't take life away if a life isn't offered or if they are not attacked. My will to live refused his persuasiveness. It was very hard to repel him from my mind, but I did. He, then, stopped trying to 'hypnotize' me and took a good look at me and walked off, in deep thought. A few minutes later, he came back and said: "I've never sensed such strength in a female mortal. You have a choice: you can choose to die with your family or come with us to be one of us". I did not want to die. The scene of my dying sister, gasping , and trembling, was very vivid in my mind. I did not want to die that way. But I did not want to be part of my family's murderers. What was I to do? I looked at my young sister's beautiful face, all pale and inert. I wanted to cry and mourn, but I held it all within my heart and said: "I will come with you". The leader looked into my face and sensed my thirst for revenge and said: "Your choice is made, then. You will come to understand with time the cause of your loss". Then, he firmly took me in his arms and gently moved my hair aside. He said softly, bending over my neck: " It will be painful, but don't be afraid, it will be over soon". I closed my eyes when I felt his breath touch my skin. I felt a sharp pain in my neck and surrendered myself to darkness.
