Duty or not…?
Kyra had resumed her morning exercises and headed back to the castle to eat lunch. It was a very hot day and after training for the whole morning, she was tired and hungry but still had a smiled of satisfaction in her face. It had been a very productive morning and the day was beautiful and perfect as well. As she moved through the training grounds, submerged in her own thoughts, the soldiers and knights watched her go as they performed their duties and did their training. Many of them disapproved of females learning of battle strategy and fighting but things had changed in the Kingdom of Light when Princess Kyra turned eighteen and went through her ‘coming-of-age’ ritual as it is traditionally done for everyone.
After she turned eighteen, she had requested to be instructed in military strategy and battle. Her father had refused since princesses were not required to learn such things and it was more of a responsibility for the King’s son to learn those skills. Kyra was determined to learn so she asked her older brother, Hunter, to teach her some of what he knew. He thought it was a good idea to have someone to spar with during his free time and decided to teach her….What he didn’t imagine was that Kyra was getting stronger and quicker as he taught her the basics. She was a fast learner. After several secret lessons, Kyra felt confident enough to go to her father and request the same thing again, except this time she was going to bargaing with him: She was going to duel with anyone her father chose and if she managed to disarm her oponent, her request would be approved. The King didn’t take her very seriously but wanted her to stop nagging about it so he chose Lt. Braxton to fight her, who was in charge of training the soldiers that had just joined the Army. To everyone’s surprise, she managed to disarm the Lt. partly because he wasn’t expecting her to do much and partly due to her skills. If the Lt. had been ready to fight her, she probably would not have suceeded. The King had no choice but to give consent for her request and also requested Lt. Braxton to be her personal trainer. Of course, he still taught the others but he would solely focus on her progress.
The Lt. didn’t really like the Princess at first but after teaching her for a few days and seeing that she retained everything he taught her, he decided to be friends with her and they indeed became good friends. Still, a lot of the high commanders didn’t approve of her. It just wasn’t how things are supposed to be done.
The reason Kyra decided to do this was because she wanted to do something different and this gave her a sense of purpose. She didn’t just want to be a dolled up Princess to be paraded about in court. She grew bored of the gossip and frivolous conversations that most of the noble ladies had. Kyra had four older siblings and each had their own responsibilities. Kyra felt a bit left out since she was the youngest of them all. If her mother had lived after she was born, then she might have turned out to be different but she had grown up surrounded of nannies and older siblings that excelled at everything they did.
Sabie, the oldest child, was a beautiful and delicate woman, she was the image of her mother. She was regal and refined, just like a Princess is expected to be. She was bethroted to a Prince from another Kingdom and she accepted this without complaint. Then there was Hunter, the second child but oldest son, who was destined to rule after his Father. Rhone, the third child, was going to be Commander in Chief and in charge of the Armed Forces when Hunter took the throne. Maximillien, the fourth child, had dedicated his life to research for he had been born with the gift of healing and he was always finding ways to provide better treatments to ill patients. Kyra, the last one, had felt for the longest time that she had no purpose in her life and many had told her she was to uphold the family’s honor and be a proper Princess but she found this to be tiresome and a bit pointless. She wanted to do more for the Kingdom.
As she studied the Kingdom’s history, she learned about an ancient female warrior “Xelena” lead the Armed Forces into battle when there was war with the Kingdom of Darkness. Xelena was highly magical and very skilled in battle and with her strategies, they had won the war. Kyra wanted to be like her and that’s where the whole idea of being trained in the military came from. Ironically, Xelena had been a half Angel and a half Demon, her parents unknown to everyone and even herself. Xelena had fought for the Angel race, for the Kingdom of the Light. The historians had recorded that she had been examined after she was injured in a battle and it was determined she had Angelic and Demonic characteristics. It was known that she also used White and Dark magic which is virtually impossible for a purebreed of either race. When she used highly magical spells, she was known to make her wings appear and she would extend them to their full length. Her demonic heritage was even more obvious when she did this because her wings were covered with black feathers. Angels have white feathered wings only. Even though she had fame, she was shunned from society even after she saved the Kingdom of Light. She was never fully accepted because of her demon heritage.
Kyra identified herself with this ancient heroine. And she swore to herself that she would become strong to defend her home country if there was a need, just like Xelena had. She had found a purpose to dedicate her life to. Surprisingly, after a long training session with the Lt., they both found out she had battle magical powers. They had been dormant, and would have continued to be, if she had not decided to do military training. Angels with highly magical powers for battle formed part of the Elite Armed Forces of Light. The Lt himself was part of it and he was rather pleased to know his pupil had this ability for it would make teaching more interesting to him. Kyra was a challenge to him.
The King had been informed of Kyra’s abilities and progress and was very much surprised. He would have preferred one of his sons to have her abilities though. He was thinking of these things as he waited for Kyra to show up for lunch. He had called her for a special meeting woth her. He was feeling a bit guilty for what he was about to do but he had no choice. It was for the safety and happiness of his subjects.
Kyra came in. She looked a bit sweaty and flushed from all the physical activity she had been subjected to that morning. But she looked rather happy. The King sighed feeling a bit of disapproval for her ‘unprincess-like’ behavior but he also sighed because of what was about to happen…
“Kyra, my child, I have something to ask of you…” King Ezekiel said
She nodded at him to indicate him she was listening.
“Actually…I’d like to ask you something first…Why exactly did you decide you wanted to be in the military?” Her father asked. He knew why but wanted to hear it from her.
“As I have explained it to you before, I want to do it because I intend to defend my country and home if there ever was a war again…” she replied “It is the royal family’s responsibility to protect and take care of the people of the Kingdom , to protect their peace, freedom and happiness. And as a child born in royalty, I can fulfill that responsibility by becoming a leader in the Armed Forces”
“So you would put your life in danger for the sake of your country?” He asked
“My life was pledged to serve my country from the moment I was born…” she said
The King nodded in agreement and then said “And for such reason, I have made a very difficult decision that will change your life…”. The King breathed in deeply and continued “As you know, the Kingdom of Darkness and the Kingdom of Light have never had a very good relationship. Demons and Angels don’t seem to get along. And you know that due to that long rivalry that has always existed in between the two kingdoms, here and there we have turmoil breaking in and threatening to start a war…I have two guests from the Kingdom of Darkness and they have come to meet you…”
“Oh Father! I’m not a diplomat. That task is more suited for Sabie…” Kyra said, groaning “And I’m not even dressed up for the ocassion anyway…”
“Kyra, my guests are King Lucien III and his son Prince Damien. We have decided that a political marriage will improve our countries’ relationship….” King Ezekiel “Your hand has been given in marriage to Damien…”
“WHAT! YOU CANNOT DO THAT! Are you CRAZY?!! He is a DEMON…!!! “ she shouted enraged “This would be a forbidden marriage…! It’s just NOT done…AND YOU CANNOT DECIDE WHAT TO DO WITH MY LIFE…” she added indignantly
“I know interracial marriage is almost a taboo in our time but nowhere in the books says it can’t be done. It’s just prejudice that implies it. Anyhow, you said yourself that your life was pledged to serve your country and with this marriage you will be keeping that vow, you will be protecting the people from a war and will help to maintain this peace we’ve had for so long…” The King said
“NO! I REFUSE! I WILL NOT DO IT!” she screamed, tears threatening to come
“YES YOU WILL…AND THAT’S FINAL…” The King said sternly “My dear, you are not in condition to meet our guests today. They need to leave soon so I will send them on their way with the promise that I will be sending you to them in a few days…”
“Father…please…don’t make me do this….” She pleaded on her knees, crying.
“I have already given them my word and we have signed your engagement agreement. There’s nothing I can do to change that now. The agreement was final. You will go to them and marry this young prince…” he said
“Your wish…is my command, Sir…” Kyra replied softly, looking down at her feet “May I be dismissed now?”
“You are, soldier…” The King said, hoping Kyra would respond to his teasing but she just simply ran out of the room. He wished he could comfort her but did not know how. He had not wanted to do this because he knew this would be very hard on her but the Kingdom’s safety was at stake. He hoped he was not making a mistake. He sighed, preocupied with this and went to talk to his guests before they left.
The Demon Prince and Demon King entered a carriage and left the castle’s courtyard, surrounded by their escort. Kyra observed them from her room’s balcony. Disgusted at the prospect of being married to a demon, she cursed and went back inside her room…
What she didn’t know though, was that the young demon Prince felt the same way about this ‘marriage fiasco’. Staring outside the carriage’s window, the young Prince scowled and ignored his Father’s attempts to start a conversation. The trip back home was quiet and there was a heavy and tense atmosphere hanging inside the carriage. Thankfully, they reached home earlier that expected and the Prince quickly dashed to his own bedroom and brooded.
[All right! This RP is a romance/comedy. The demon prince and the angel princess hate each other at first but fall in love with each other eventually. This will take place in the demon's castle since she's being sent there. I intend this to be a funny rp with romance in it. The prince has to be a smart a** and it annoys princess Kyra...They have to try to make each other's life impossible until the day of the wedding. Kyra was sent to the Prince's home so they would get to know each other better before they get married.
Please be Damien. I prefer you to be that...but if you want to reply as another character (maybe as one of Damien's siblings, sister or brother...) I dont care. Make it interesting. You can play two characters if you want.
Also if you don't feel like rp'ing this, there are other rp's in my journal we can try or you send me starter and we'll see. I don't do incests or slaves rp's though. PM ME TO RP PLEASE! ]
