Nearly a week later had real progress of my efforts started to show. I thought that maybe in my haste of greed the program designed to crack into the DTD wasn't suited for such a task. Instead though... It seemed to grow a mind of it's own.
I had made a mental habit of deleting footage from the security data for weeks now; mostly concerning mine and the other apprentices movements as we continued to work behind Ansem's back. The program I created caught on quickly though.. and before I knew it, it was deleting the footage on it's own. Not only that, but it would replace what was lost with looped footage of us in our beds. It was rather fascinating when Ansem suspected me being up in the lab the previous night, only to check the feed back of the camera to find that I was simply reading a book that I hadn't touched in three months into all hours of the night before falling asleep. It was a rather comforting fact knowing something was on our side.
However, far we made it though... I knew eventually our experiments could no longer be held by nativity and shrugs. We were making such progress... Each passing hour was another step closer to the door... I could feel it. But no matter how I denied it by the love for the man who brought me in from the cold, and gave me a real life, he was becoming an obstacle that I could no longer ignore.
I'd have to remove him from this picture if I was ever going to get what I wanted.
Placing a pen down, I turned out the light and gazed upwards into the calm light of the moon. I looked slowly down to my desk once more and pulled open a drawer. There behind an old tattered physics book gleamed a pistol. One shot would be all it would take to put an end to my treasonous acts... One shot.... an I could get on with my work... get on with my life by knowing both the mysteries of the Heart and knowing exactly what secrets my own Heart held.
A cold presence stirred in the room. The shadows on the wall seemed to shift as I felt my body go numb. I turned to the door, seeing it was still closed and locked, but an unknown figure stood... hovering within the light of the moon light. It's eyes glowed like a Heartless, but from it came a power that surely no mere shadow could posses. I merely stared in loss of words, before I stood slowly.
"Who are you?" were the only words that escaped my mouth. The figure made no reply. It simply continued to staring me down as the shadows continued to dance along the walls. No words met my ears but the darkness itself seemed to whisper out in echos. The whispers seemed so familiar somehow. But why would they-
"... Freedom..."
My eyes went wide. "You..." I started, my mind slowly piecing the echos together. "You're the voice from before. The one who spoke of the Door To Darkness..." I stepped forwards, offering the being a hand into the light so I could clearly see his face. "Have you come to help me get-augh!"
It happened so quickly. Pain flooded my eyes as a dark tendril shot out from the forms side. It pierced my chest without any effort and took hold of something inside of me. I could feel a power pulsating around my heart. I could have cried out in agony, but my body was frozen in fear.
This can't be happening! Not now! Not after how far we've come!
"Watch over the others who are to come after you" the figure started to speak in a genderless rhaspy voice that was clear as day. I felt it's words screaming in my head as the tendril continued to make my body grow cold. Something was seeping into me...
It was Darkness... Rage... Power. "Expand into an empire. Take all life that stands in your way. Their sacrifice will only make you stronger. Give birth to a new age in my name.
Your Freedom lies beyond the Door.
Serve me, Xehanort."
