I walk into the house exhausted as I throw down my scarf on the couch.
"Kids! I'm home!" I yell out to Angela and Scuppers, my two adoptive children.
I hear the thumping of Scuppers from the stairs as he yelled, "Welcome home, Mom!" with Angela yelling "Moooommy!!" in the backround.
"I'm getting dinner ready right away!" I told them as I walked into the kitchen as Scuppers bounded on the last step carrying his sister on his back.
"What's it this time, Mommy?" Angela asked me as she limped her way towards me on her wooden leg.
"You look tired, maybe I should cook?" Scuppers suggested.
"Naaah. We'll make use of our microwavable food." I told him as I took out two boxed spaghetti from the freezer.
Scupper rolled his eyes but didn't say anything. Angela just took her place in our small dinner table.
"What happened in your Japanese performing. You look more tired than usual." Scuppers asked as he settled down beside his sister and as I put one of the boxes in the microwave and turned it on.
"Just some drama when I was goofing off with my friends. Don't worry, Scuppers. I'm not that exhausted," I lied, worrying about my dear friend Itsumika and hoping she was happy with her choice.
"Yeah right," Scuppers murmured under his breath but I decided to ignore it.
Today was a rough day actually. I had to work even harder because my boss would be supervising us in a couple of my jobs and I had to be in my best behavior. Then I had to bring Angela to the hospital today right after I picked her up in the orphanage. Then when I was having some fun with one of my friends, a close friend of mine, Itsumika, wanted to move away because of all the pain she's been through on Gaia. It hurts to lose a friend but I didn't try to stop Mika because I'm sure she was only doing what was best for her.
"Mom. It's done." Scuppers said to me, interrupting me from my thoughts.
"Oh! Yeah!" I replied, pulling out the spaghetti from the microwave and setting it down in front of Angela and Scuppers.
"It's a good thing you weren't cooking it or it would have turned out burnt," Scuppers told me.
He always liked to point out my bad cooking skills whenever he had the chance....
"Thank you, Mommy!" Angela replied happily and started digging into her food.
I put in the next spaghetti box.
"I'm guessing you're going to be eating our leftovers?" Scuppers asked me.
"Yeah," I told him and I knew that Scuppers would purposfully leave a generous helping for me if it turns out Angela ate all of hers.
I had such good kids. I thought happily.
"Mom... it's done."
