We evacuated to Alabama. I fought with my sister-in-law the whole time. Left Sunday to get out of here, and left to come home Wednesday. Had no electricity for about 24 hours. Was hard to sleep in the sweltering heat. The one tree we were most worrying about, did come down, but we were lucky that it fell away from the house and across the road. Lots of big limbs down all over the front and back yard, but that ok! No water in the house. Sounds like Baton Rogue got it bad. And that is alarming to most in this area because it is looke dat as a safe haven for those from New Orleans and surrounding area. Thank goodness it didn't take a wobble back towards the east or we would have gotten it alot worse.
But Hanna is now sweeping by my Mom in Florida and then Ike looks like even more of a threat for her. She is currently suffering threw chemo-therapy, so I worry for her.
Who knows where Josephine will end up. All I know is that I am ready for the cool front to start coming down and the winds of change will blow the threat of hurricanes away for another season.
I had scrubbed out the tubs before we decided to leave. And had cleaned out the refrigerator before the electricity came back on. So everything in the ice chest was ready to go directly into the frig asap. It took 4 bags of ice in 24 hours to keep everything cold. But I still had to go ahead and cook about four meals worth of ground meat because it had already defrosted. No financial assistance available for us once again. And who knows what this past weeks paycheck will look like, with missing four out of five days of work. Back to school on Monday. No word yet from the school board on if they will take away some of the vacation days to make up for the four days missed. If so, it will probably come from the Mardi Gras vacation time, hopefully.
