My Ability, My Power
Even I...

I am now a Shadow among the world. Still a Forgotten, though. I can't believe, however, that I've stumbled back to my old place. It's strange. Rumor around here says that my friend, Isabeau, is alive. When I heard that, it scared me. She can't be alive. I saw her die. But, now that I'm here at my old place, I'm starting to believe the rumors are true. I forgot, as I was part of the main Forgotten group, that my ears were once black. It was back just after my friend had died.

It was still dark out as the early hours of the morning ticked by. I sat on the bench, listening for anything. My bandanna was off and my charcoal tail twitched behind me. My jacket was thrown over the back of the bench beside me, the same color as my shirt.

It started to sprinkle as I looked up at the gray sky. Beams of sunlight shot through the skyscrapers around me, around Central Park. I stood, pulling my jacket on and gripping my bandanna slightly. I loved the sensation of the rain on my ears and there was no one in the park. Even if someone did come by, the trees surrounding me were still thick with darkness.

My ear twitched as the sound of a twig snapping was heard over the soft pitter patter of the rain. I slipped into the darkness but didn't watch my step. The ground disappeared from under my step as I fell back into a water filled ditch. Soaking wet, I climbed back onto the sidewalk to earn a hit to the back of my head.

Stunned, I collapsed on the pavement. Someone was standing over me and a gentle light grew. My ears started to hurt as I forced myself up. A blonde hair girl was looking at me a few feet away, black cat ears visible in her hair. They flattened as she said, "I'm sorry, Asanashi, but it was time."

I looked at the puddle of water before me and saw that my ears were no longer their charcoal black but a stunning white that seemed to glow in the dark morning. I touched them, even pulled them, to make sure they were real. Tying my bandanna on, I hurried home.

...last for a while
