Chapter 4There was an odd glow in the cave, it gave off enough light that we could all see a few meters in front of us. Daniel still held my hand, but then let go and got up, then held out his hand to help me up, I took it of course. I wiped off my pants because they were covered in snow. After I was done, Daniel led the way to the entrance gate.
After about an hour walk we got to the gate. It was heavily guarded by five vampires. We walked right up to the gate.
“Who is it that wishes to enter the gate?” said a young male voice.
“You must be new but I’m Daniel.” Daniel said in a kind tone.
“Sorry sir. I have never seen you before so I did not know.” He had his head down and so did the other four. I guess that was how you bowed to a vampire prince.
“What is your name?” Daniel asked, “And how old are you?”
“My name is Ricky, and I am 18 in human years. And newly blooded.” Said Ricky.
“Oh. Well could you let us through please, to the dreaded clothes room?” Asked Daniel.
“Yes sir.” Said Ricky, he let us through.
“I hate what happens next, father is very old fashion. So you’ll be wearing a dress that went out of style centuries ago.”
I tried very hard not to laugh, but it was hard not to with that discomfort at the thought of the clothes he had to wear.
“Hear we unfortunately are.” Said Daniel with a sigh.
“Hello Daniel, so you’re finally back. Peter will take you in the royal dressing room.” Said the lady, she was a head taller than me, had light blond hair, with brown eyes, and she was wearing a very old fashion dress.
“Yes, I guess I have to change don’t I? Well have fun dressing Katherine.” Daniel said.
“Come we have to get you into a dress fit for the prince’s lady. By the way my name is Caitlin.” said Caitlin.
Caitlin led me into a room with a billion dresses. She led me into the back of the room, where there was a set of curtains. Caitlin pulled a cord and the curtains opened. There were the most beautiful dresses I had ever seen, and they were all shades of colors.
Caitlin went over to the dresses and picked one out. She handed it to me. It was light blue with faint shades of purple when it moved in the light, I loved it instantly.
“Try it on.” Caitlin ordered me. I did as she said. There was a body mirror in the corner. I looked in it to see a beautiful woman before me. I stared, shocked. Caitlin giggled at my face. “No wonder Daniel chose you, in that dress even his father couldn’t look away.”
“You really think so?” I asked.
“Yes, it really is too bad that he is dieing. Come, we have to fix your hair.” With that she led me away; I didn’t complain I had too much on my mind.
When Caitlin was done, she gave me a mirror to look at my hair. I looked dazzling; my hair was up in a giant bun that was very curly with little ringlets hanging down the sides of my face.
“Wow Caitlin, I look beautiful. Thank you so much.” I said.
Caitlin took me out of the room and led me to where Daniel was waiting. She had me stop and told me to wait until I she said my name.
“Your Highness, may I present to you Princess Katherine.” That was my cue so I walked out from behind the corner.
Daniel’s month dropped a tiny bit when he first saw me, then asked, “Katherine, is that you?”
I giggled at his statement, “Of course it’s me, silly.” I said.
“Well I guess we can go meet father now.” He said the shock still plain on his face. He held out his arm for me to take and I took it. He led me down a tunnel then stopped at a door to our left.
“Well shall we go in?” Daniel asked.
“What do we have to lose?” I said.
Daniel knocked on the door, and not even after he had pulled his hand away a face of a fourteen year old girl pecked out, she had light brown hair, blue eyes, and was a few inches shorter than me.
“Daniel! I’m so happy you’re here.” The girl said.
“I’m happy to see you to Emily, you’ve gotten taller.” Daniel said he was smiling very big; I got the feeling that this was his sister he had told me about.
“Emily this is Katherine. Katherine this is Emily, my little sister.”
“Hi Emily.” I said very friendly way.
“Hi Katherine. Come on in Father isn’t sleeping right now, and I’m sure he would like to know you’re here.” Said Emily.
Emily led us inside a huge chamber, and there at the end of it was a bed were an old man sat.
“Father! Daniel is here and he brought home a girl!” shouted Emily happily.
“I guess she’s happy that your home.” I whispered to Daniel.
“Yeah, she was the only good thing about coming home.” Daniel whispered back. We walked up to the king’s bed to say hello.
“So Daniel you finally found yourself a lady, have you?” Said the king.
“Yes, her name is Katherine and I love her very much.” Daniel’s last comment warmed my heart.
“Come stand in front of me Katherine.” I did as he said. “You are very pretty; you will make a great wife for Daniel and a great queen for our kind.”
When I heard this I was shocked, Daniel had never mentioned this before. I looked at him; he was glaring at the king with the kind of look that said I was getting to that later.
Then the king said, “You haven’t told her yet Daniel?” Then he burst out laughing.
“Father, we came here because Ryan said you knew of her and that you wanted to see her.”
“I never sent your brother to get you. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen him for two months.” said the king.
“Neither have I.” added Emily.
“He gave us a false message that would send us here, but why?” I asked aloud.
This got everyone pondering, all curious for the answer. Finally after five minutes of silence there came a knock.
“Sir, there are five mages here wishing to see you.” said the guard who had knocked.
“Send them into the meeting room and tell them they will have to tell my heir, his wife, and my daughter. Go now.” said the king with authority that I had not heard before.
We left the king’s chamber, when we were out in the hall I pestered Daniel for answers.
“What the hell did he mean wife and queen?” I could tell that he was going to try and avoid the question. Just when I was going to pester him more Emily tripped over the hem of her dress. Daniel and I both burst out laughing.
“It’s not funny! Vampires are suppose to be graceful!” Even through Emily was mad at us you could tell she was trying not to laugh.
After Emily recovered we went on walking to the meeting chamber.
