Chapter 3
Ryan came out from behind a tree right in front of us. He was taller than Daniel, but not nearly as handsome. His eyes were to close; his nose looked as if it had been broke on several occasions, and he had a sneer that ruined the rest of his face completely.
“Such a clever boy to know me by the sound of my voice.” It was a snide comment, he was mocking Daniel.
“What the hell do you want you slime!” Daniel said enraged.
“Calm down, father sent me down here to bring your royal hide home.” said Ryan in a smug tone that enraged Daniel further.
“Daniel calm down, please.” I asked with pleading eyes.
He started to relax some, “Fine for you, Katherine. Only for you.”
“Oh! You found yourself a little vampire b*$@#.” He said in a delighted tone.
That got me pissed! “Who you calling a B*$@#! You’re just a low life piece of slime!” I was sure I was bright red with fury, but right then I didn’t care.
After I had said that he started to laugh, that pushed me over boiling point. I lunged at him in full fury; lucky for him Daniel stopped me.
“Katherine calm down, he could kill you.” He said fear for my wellbeing in his voice.
Fear grabbed my body like an iron fist. Daniel was right, I had no experience fighting as a vampire, Ryan could be centuries older than me.
“Anyways back to business, father heard about her and wants to see her.” Ryan smiled at something that he thought funny.
“She’s hardly been a vampire two months! He can’t see her before she even knows all of our ways!” Daniel was out of control, he would have lunged if I had not intervened.
“Daniel” I yelled at him.
“Move out of the way, Katherine. I’m goanna kill that slime!” he roared.
I held on to him using a bear hug. I wouldn’t let go no matter how hard he struggled under my grasp. He looked at me, pure hatred in his eyes, I was crying; I didn’t want to lose Daniel. I had just how much I cared for Daniel. When he saw my face his body went limp, he dropped to the ground and I went down with him. I wouldn’t let go for fear that he would charge at Ryan.
After we fell, Daniel picked me up and held me close. I don’t know if he saw the fear or pain, maybe both. I didn’t know. We just sat there, Daniel holding me tight, me crying on his shirt. He tried soothing me, it helped a little.
“I’m so sorry Katherine, I didn’t mean to scare or cause you pain.” He whispered into my ear.
“I don’t want to lose you Daniel.” I cried some more after I said it. I couldn’t help it; Daniel was the only person I had left.
“You will never lose me, I promise.” He told me.
“You make me want to puke! The message sent by your father was that you bring her to the castle, as soon as you got this message. Now, I’m going to leave before I get sick.” With that Ryan left.
I guess I cried myself to sleep in Daniel’s arms and he carried me home, because when I woke I was in bed with Daniel’s arms wrapped around me. I didn’t know what time it was, but I didn’t care. I flipped around without disturbing Daniel and put my arms around his waist. So with my arms around him and my face in his shoulder, I fell asleep in seconds.
I woke to Daniel moving around. “Hummm… What’s wrong?” I asked.
“I was trying not to wake you.” Daniel said softly.
“What time is it?”
“Almost midnight, I was going to pack while you were sleeping.” He said.
“It’s ok. I’ll help you pack.”
So we started to pack, we didn’t talk. Finally I said, “What did he mean by your father? You told me father died, and also what did he mean by royal?”
“I’ve always hated him, so to me he is dead. And by royal he was talking about how my father is the king of the vampires, and that makes my sister and me prince and princess.”
I looked at him amazed, but once I got over that I asked, “What about your mom?”
“Mom died awhile back.” He said depression in his voice.
“I’m sorry.” I replied.
“Father sent me out here to look for a queen for myself, now he wants to see her.” He looked at me with worry in his eyes.
“What you don’t think he’ll like me?” I asked in a mocking tone.
That made him smile, I was glad I could get a smile out of him.
“So when do we leave?”
We left the next night, we had light packs for traveling and Emmett came with us, I was glad of that I would have missed him dearly. Through I was scared for Emmett and the other vampires, but Daniel said that vampires didn’t drink for dogs or wolves. “We don’t hunt them because legend says that we learned how to hunt and run at high speeds from the wolves, and since dogs are descended from wolves we don’t drink from them either.”
A week into the trip and I still had no idea where we were going. Finally I asked, “Where exactly are we going?”
“Mt. Everest.” He replied.
“Mt. Everest! Well I guess that makes sense.” I was totally confused.
He chuckled, “It does make sense since it is the biggest mountain in the world.” I smiled and by the way he smiled back, I knew that I was red.
We made it to Mt. Everest in another week. It was huge and beautiful. We had to climb a great distance before we got to the cave; it was hidden behind a large pile of snow. Daniel made a hole in the side of the pile by the cave entrance. He climbed in first then he got Emmett through the hole, then it was my turn. Daniel held out his hand for mine, I took it and he pulled me through.
