I've had a lot of people ask me about my school and what its like considering it's a private school, and now that i have an hour break before my next lesson, i figured i should just sit down on my laptop and give you an insite to what Forest High is actually like.
Well to begin with, it's just like any other school you would go to, we have fixed time tables, lessons and uniforms, all in which i'll go through in detail later on. We're also like a college in the fact that we get to call our teachers by their first name and we also have the freedom of choosing our lessons. Forest High it self is huge, to say the least, around 10 acres of land with three different parts: the school building, the dorm rooms and the sports facilities.
I'll start with the dorm rooms because there the first thing people bring up. There are two sections to the dorm building itself, split into two areas one for boys and one for girls seperated by stairs. We have three floors, one for each year, all have either single, double or triple rooms. Now i was fortunate enough to be picked to have a single room so i get a single bed, a desk, wardrobe and en suite facilities all to myself which is fun seeing as i don't have to worry about waking people up in the middle of the night.
The school building is huge with a whole floor for each department, with a large music, art, D+T and Drama department all included. The teachers are amazing to say the least seeing as they actually take the time to help you out without making a fuss. The LRC or Library is again huge with shelf after shelf of any book you could want. I was reading the Necronomicon IV by H.R. Giger, for those of you who don't know him, he was the genius behind the Xenomorphs for the Alien Quadrilogy and the AVP movies, check out one of his designs below.
Those are two of his creations, pretty sweet if i say so myself. Anyway moving on, i said i'd talk about the lessons. Apart from the usual English Language and Literature, maths, Science, D+T, Art, Drama, Music and that; we offer advance courses, some that you would find in colleges including Computing (one i do) Ancient History (Another of mine) Music Tech and Theory (one of my faves 3nodding ) Art graphics and photography (my favourite) and Health Care (I'm pursuing a career in nursing and health so this is a must). You can do anything after the first year, but during the first year you do standard lessons that you would find in schools but it's not that bad i'll admit. Anyway moving on, i'll go to the uniforms: it's pretty straight forward English Uniforms. Different colour shirts depending on the group (Blue for shark, grey for Eagle and White for Tiger. The three animals make up the school logo) black ties, skirts or trousers and blazers and jumpers depending on the time of the year (winter we can wear jumpers aswell as blazers, rest of the year just blazers).
I don't know what else to say about it apart from that it's an amazing school. Tutorial starts at 8.30 til 9 then it's 6 lessons a day, each lasting an hour. We have two breaks, both half an hour each and then school finishes at 4 and after that it's a chance to relax and do what ever really. We have tennis clubs, sports teams, computer clubs in which we just relax on the net or play games like Unreal Tournament 3 and other first person shoot em ups. We have D+T clubs, Drama clubs, music clubs, art clubs; pretty much anything you could think of.
I don't know how they choose students seeing as i'm a foreign exchange student. From what i've heard they reserve fifty places for foreign exchange students and then the other 100 are determined through school selection, but i don't know about it. Apparently there's some weird secrecy towards it, all you have to know is that if you recieve a letter from both schools then your in.
Anyway, i'm off to have lunch, speak to you later.
